How to ask if I can study at work

I need to take the ethics exam as my final step before applying for my license.

If I understand correctly, this is CPE so how can I approach my boss to ask if I can study/take this during work hours? Is it appropriate to ask or should I just do it at home?

I work at a small CPA firm so it is a slow time through the end of the year.

    Thanks for your help!

Maybe ask a senior or someone higher, normally, what you're allowed to do when it's slow. If the answer is CPE or study for your exams, I don't see why you can't just DO it.

I worked at a small firm too and they let me do it automatically.

We do take CPE when it's slow. No one else here is studying for exams and all the staff here already had their CPA licenses when they started at this firm. I would think this would count as CPE, we do have to get our CPE approved by our managers though.

PS about how long does it take?

Just do it at home, unless you were studying for the exam at this job during work hours. I am sure my boss would let me do my CPE at work (I'm in industry) but would never ask.

Uhm, I don't know about approval. But when I was unassigned, I always went around asking for work first and went to the manager for last. If he said, there was nothing, I'd study.

Yeah, I will probably end up doing it at home I just wanted to see if anyone else had a similar experience. I wasn't studying for my exams at work, but since the Ethics exam is CPE and we do take CPE at my firm during work hours I was hoping it might be different.

    Thanks for your input!
