Hopefully, this isn’t too personal, but about how much have you spent or did spend on passing the CPA exam between the exam fees and study materials?

I think I’m at $2600 so far between CPAexcel and exam fees for BEC and FAR. I probably wasted some money paying for the Platinum CPAexcel course.

Like $1000 in exam fees that get fully reimbursed when I pass… which I will … I think.

Props to those of you that actually pay for this punishment. No way would I have ever done it had my company not reimbursed me immediately for any out of pocket expense related to the test. They even paid me mileage and meals on my tests days.

So my total costs to be a CPA was $0.

My CPE is paid for as well and I am allowed to join one society on the companies dime also.

First go at the CPA! Only using Becker
    Reg / Nov 2015 - 87
    Far / Apr 2016 - 79
    Bec / May 2016 - 80

    I am a stay-home mom for over 4 years.
It cost me about 7k to get all the accounting credits, study materials and exams.
I would say it totally worth it, because I found a job in local CPA firm after staying home for 4 years!!
The career gap is a killer and I would do anything to make up the gap.
    Gladly, my husband is supportive.
He never say a word on me spending so much on different materials.

    For my journey, it includes:
Time:10 months to pass exam (7 exam takings) and 4 extra months to be licensed
Cost: $4650 for review course, exam fee, and all license fees.
After all of that, the firm does not reimburse (I did not expect them to as it is small firm) nor appreciate me being a CPA lol … time to look for another job I guess.

Thankfully I got a scholarship for Roger CPA review from my university. So all I had to pay was exam fees, so about ~$1000. But will still need to pay state license fees, and will likely have to pay to transfer my scores to another state and pay $500 for NASBA experience verification, if I can't figure that out.

If you include the cost of my master's degree then add another ~$20K.

Personally, I spent about $1,200 for the initial exam application fee AND exam fees for all four sections, but my firm reimbursed all of them. As for the CPA review course (Becker + Flashcards) was paid for by my firm as well. On top of that, I got a $5K bonus money for passing the CPA exam before I started working for the firm so if anything, I made $ off of taking this awful exam.

$1,200 for Gleim access until you pass. Employer paid for 2 months of Ninja at like $69 each. 3 Notice to schedules so $225 for that. Then $210 per section so $840. Total is $2,715 out of pocket or $2,853 if you include what employer paid.

    @Trele6
That's really short-sighted. I guarantee having CPA is going to make me more than the $2,715 I spent on it over the course of my career.
