I recently passed my 4th and final CPA exam. I graduated in 2011 and always knew I would pass, but I wasn’t motivated until 2017. During those first 6 years I would get little bursts of motivation, and I would buy study software or book an exam. When an NTS would expire, I would just buy a new one, same thing with my study software, when my software expired, I bought a new one. My first Becker software came in a box with DVDs, and my final Becker software was on my IPAD. All in all over the last 7 years I spent $22,133.34 to become a CPA.

I’ve also had to pay a pretty steep physical health price. In less than 10 months I went from a 25 minute 5k to a 45 minute 5k, and from running 30-40 miles a week to running 2-3 miles a week. I also gained 60 lbs. I became serious about the CPA exam last year after tax season, and I was able to pass the CPA exam in a nine month period. All my free time was spent studying and I have become lethargic. Since June 10th, I’ve started running daily again, and I feel stuff happening.

Anyways the CPA exam was costly to me, and I broke down all my expenses in chronological order below. How much has it cost you?

I have not finished the tests yet, but everything has been paid for by my work so far.

I just see someone who didn't give up. Costly? Yes. But you have your honor and dignity. Ignore those who disparage and outperform them.

every where I've worked, it was reimbursed except for the tests themselves….but since i failed a billion times, i say 15 tests (i failed alot also tried for about a decade on and off) x 210 = $3150 roughly….thankfully the beckers and the Wileys and the Ninja products were somehow reimbursed….but i look at it this way: 6/28/18 must have been a hell of a day for ya! You deserve it! Congrats again on the long CPA journey cost wise but guaranteed to be a very fruitful future!

    BEC - 68,70,72,75 5/15
    AUD - 78(expired), 77 8/15
    REG - 29,58,65,77 1/16
FAR - 56,68,73 - retake October hopefully (last shot)

Been doing this since 2007 on and off...

it took me 3 years to pass all 4 within the 18 month rolling window. I passed 7 out of 4 parts.

I haven't added it all up, but I estimate about $6K.

I also see one determined person. Congrats!

    BEC - 8/8/16
    REG - 66, 77
    AUD - 81
    FAR - 9/8/16

Less than five hundred. I purchased flashcards and ninja materials to augment Becker regular items. Everything else firm either paid for outright or reimbursed.

I do applaud you for not giving up and making it happen.

Congrats! Long and expensive road and it's paid off. Funny part is I also graduated in 2011 and I finally got serious about it last year. If you count a few months where I didn't work last year haven taken off to study, I'm probably in it for a lot more than you. It is what it is. Hopefully I get there too just like you did.

The greatest thing is not having that exam over my head anymore. It's been there for the past 7 years. It was worth it.
