I am a “late bloomer” I guess you could say.

I went to college straight out of high school, had some life events happen, dropped out of college, went back to school at age 31, graduated with Associate’s degree at 32, graduated with Bachelor’s degree at age 34. Got a job at a CPA firm a few months before I graduated, moved to industry at age 36, moved back to CPA firm at age 43. Started sitting for my CPA at age 45.

anyone else in a similar situation?

Well, lets just say the following. I have seen:

    The Who
    Rolling Stones
    ZZ Top
    Bill Idol
    Stevie Ray Vaughn
    BB King
    Eric Clapton
    Genesis
    Led Zep

    I'm sure I missed about 6 others.

Oh, and all of these on original tours not some “I'm coming back on my final tour..”

8-Track favorite: Steve Miller – Book of Dreams. Won it in a radio contest. Always switched tracks during “Swingtown” if I remember.

30 for me. Graduated Undergrad with Finance in 2008, MBA in Finance in 2013 and found that in all my roles at work I was in accounting and reporting roles, not finance. So with my work experience and schooling I had what I needed to be able to sit for the exam and get licensed and figured it's better to do it now rather than later. Plus my employer covered the cost of study materials and reimburses you when you pass the exam.

March 4th – REG for the win and hopefully done!!

I'm 37 years old. I started my path for an MBA when I was 35, finished that and then went for the CPA. Previously I had earned two Bachelors (accounting / business administration) back in 2003.

I had no real desire to have any of these qualifications but I decided to do them for two reasons:

    1. They were completely free to me, my company paid 100% of the costs for both my MBA and CPA including CPE.
    2. If I ever wanted to be promoted to a supervisor I would need these to standout against the competition.

I'll never work in public accounting. I feel for those poor souls being worked like slaves and treated/paid the same. The only way firms continue to get away with it is people let them. No one makes a stand and demands better so why shouldn't you work 90+ hour weeks for nothing?

First go at the CPA! Only using Becker

I'm totally 21 Jump Streeting it as an intern right now lol, 38 but could pass for mid-late 20's (thank you mom & dad for those youthful genes!).

I started my accounting journey taking community college courses at 35, did a masters, now the internship at Big 4 and CPA exam. Never too old to make changes and better your life. Most people are too scared or lazy to make moves at this point in their lives, kudos to all who have done it or are in the process!!!

Loving the reminiscing of the old timers…..I am 51, raised four children now all in college, worked 20+ years in tax and bookkeeping, got my BSA, MSA and can't seem to pass the cpa exam :-(. sometimes I feel shame, sometimes I wonder why I keep trying, but no worries I have a tv with the dvd and vhs combo….My daughter said,” oh my word what is that, I said the same tv you watched sesame street and afternoon cartoons on while I worked”. Sorry no 8 tracks….but I'm getting a new flat screen for my office. (hopefully before March Madness)

    It begins with a 75

In high school I met the guy who invented the VCR and one of my teachers invented the timer for the VCR.

As a 34-year old I ran into that teacher again as he taught at my city college, but he didn't recognize me at all.

    I am 29 and mom to a 5 year old 🙂
So many times I felt completely out of place during my internship at a Big4 this summer. I hope I will be able to fit in better when I start my full time position this year…

I loved early Madonna's song. After 30+ years later, I listening to her early music when I studied for the exams. Many of you were not even born when “Holiday” came out. I feel so old 🙁

I didn't realize there were so many older candidates on this forum, awesome. I assumed everyone here was fresh out of college.

I am 40. I have worked as an accountant ever since graduating college in 2000. I decided in 2015 it was time and unfortunately had to get 24 semester hours prior to sitting. I finished that last August and started the CPA in October. This most definitely is one of the hardest things I have done. It is hard to work full time, raise kids and study, but I am sure it will be worth it! I don't want to work in public accounting but it seems most people are getting the CPA or MBA now.
