I am a “late bloomer” I guess you could say.

I went to college straight out of high school, had some life events happen, dropped out of college, went back to school at age 31, graduated with Associate’s degree at 32, graduated with Bachelor’s degree at age 34. Got a job at a CPA firm a few months before I graduated, moved to industry at age 36, moved back to CPA firm at age 43. Started sitting for my CPA at age 45.

anyone else in a similar situation?

Its been a long time since I posted here but this forum (and particulary the NINJA products and attitude) helped me pass these exams! I graduated college in 2001, and went to work in mortgage banking. I saw the collapse firsthand in 2006-2008. I moved into public accounting, went back to school to get my additional 30 hours of accounting courses and sit for the CPA exam. 2008 I got married at age 31. 2009 i finished my 30 hours, had my first kid. 2011 had my second kid. Getting crushed by all sides, I delayed the exam until 2013. By the time I passed all four exams in the fall of 2015 at age 38, I was exhausted and felt like I was way behind in this profession. However I can tell you that it is worth it. My career is experiencing a lot more momentum now and I am actually smarter for having done all of the studying and work ! Hang in there !

You are not old unless you have had an 8 track in your hands.

PS Like a Styx 8 track.

Late 30's masquerading as 50's due to the amount of Grey's hair from CPA exams.

Kept getting hit on by younger female candidates because they think I'm a partner.

You can imagine the disappointment when they find out I'm not.

With the number of older candidates posting on A71, hopefully Jeff will take notice and maybe create some type of AARP program for us like, AACPA, with all the good Senior discounts & benefits. LOL!

I'm 61. Education in math and physics. Got laid off a university job in the recession in 2008. Found out that “adjunct” positions at community college make $10/hour. Decided to try something more lucrative with the math. Looking forward to getting this finished.

I am 41, a college professor that teach auditing and accounting classes at a university level. I have two masters degree and along the way I finished my CFE. Although the CPA always been a goal, I never talk it seriously till few months ago and start preparing for the audit exam and sat for one few days ago. The reason I am doing this because I decided to open my own CPA firm down the road and work academia part time. Age is just a number, it is about you feel. Your are never too old to finish a degree, but what happens that your priorities and goals change as you move on with your life and you find your creditentials do not alligne with you goals and thats why we go back to school. Good luck every one. I am new to this site by the way.

Suck it up, first car had an 8-track player in the dash but it was the early 80's and cassettes were the rage. So I had one 8-track tape, Nazareth. To this day I can't listen to love hurts because I so overplayed it back then.
