How do you study with so many distractions?! - Page 2

I can’t seem to get away from the constant barrage of people or events that distract me from studying!

I go to the library and even if I put my phone on silent I have my parents or long distance girlfriend asking me about dinner, parties, hanging out, etc.

I try ignoring them but something always needs an immediate response or something along those lines.

It feels like the only way I can get some quality study time in is on a deserted island with no access to anything but food, water, and CPA materials.

This is my #1 factor as to why I can’t study effectively and it’s taking me forever to pass!

Can someone please give me advice on how they study without distractions? I am seriously considering doing AirBNB for a month in an empty boring town in the middle of nowhere as that seems like my only option!!

    Grr.

These comments have been so good. I checked my own excuses for not studying….people including family don't want a thing until you are studying. I just stop answering the phone. If it is an emergency they will call back quickly. There is nothing on TV, face book, or any other social media, the inauguration is over, well, Superbowl Sunday is coming, but there is still no reason to put off studying.
Another suggestion is just tell them I am studying between xx hrs and I am NOT answering your call. Discipline has to be the key if you're going to pass. No one is here to hurt or be ridiculous but sometimes it hilarious what we think we can't give up to gain better. These are some very good posts, we just have to get it done. I love it.

I agree and I am learning a lot from each post!

I agree with the test being a test of discipline and not really a test of IQ too.

I guess I am trying to find excuses why I can't study as a form of procrastination. I can't wait to get this over with…

I've only taken one exam, but I can tell you that the excuses you make won't get you a pass. This is one of the hardest professional exams there is, and you have to have the discipline to put the phone down. Once you pass, your career will take off. Tell the gf and parents to not contact you during the times you plan on studying. If they aren't willing, then they are t rooting for your success. You can't really change your parents, but girlfriends come and go.

You can do it. You just need to change what's in between your ears.

Get excited, that's what I do. Embrace the challenge. Give the CPA the big middle finger and say “F U, I'm gonna win this fight!”

I try to get myself jacked up and pumped to study. Otherwise it gets very old and depressing very quickly. I also don't get nervous for tests, I get excited as I finally get to show off all of my hard work.

    Positive Mental Attitude.

I took in a wild dog that had 11 puppies in my house while I was studying for AUD. Nightmare!!!! But I would never study with my phone or chat program on, that's asking for trouble. People in your life are going to be fine if you turn them off for 3 hours to study.
