    Hi,

I took REG, my first exam back in July. After 2 months of studying, I am disappointed to say I failed with a 71. On my diagnostic report, I got 2 comparable scores, 2 weak, and one stronger. My MC were comparable and my Sims were weaker. I knew walking out I totally bombed the sims and could not find the research question. Does anyone have any strategies for completing the research questions? I am now studying for FAR, exam in 2 weeks, and I am using Becker final review. One of the practice questions had me look up a change in reporting entity. I found a citation in the book with the same exact heading as the answer but this was not the correct citation. This has me totally confused as to how you even find the correct citation? Any help is appreciated!

    Thanks!

Are you using the advanced search? You should be searching 2+ keywords at a time also you should be using the search within if you know what area the answer should be located. An example for Auditing would be if you got a question regarding a situation for a public company you would search within the PCAOB.

I was not using search within. Just typed in “Change in reporting entity”, just like the answer key said for Becker review. What would you suggest in this situation? Should I be searching “within” a certain section? A bit different than the audit example. Thanks! (Also confused why the Becker program doesn't teach how to do the research questions on the software?…)

As cpacandidate3 said, you have to click on “advanced search” and “search words next to each other” (i think that's what it's called). It's impossible not to find the answer as this option always gets the answer.

@cara, keep changing the key words if you are not getting with “search next to each other ” and then go for generic word like Individual or Partnership etc and then do search within with your key words.

Still really not sure how you differentiate between a right and wrong answer. Even when you use advance search, this specific question on becker returns 2 different citations both with the same exact heading “Change in reporting entity”. How would you differentiate on the exam? (50-6 Change in Reporting Entity) – (45-21 Change in reporting entity? Both touch upon disclosure…

One thing I hated about becker was that they didn't completely open up the AL. Like you can get topics and subtopics but you can't actually get into the paragraphs in the section (where the meat is), instead it just lists a generic overview of the section but doesn't allow you to actually see the paragraphs to find the answer. This is something Becker needs to change ASAP. They gave you full access pre-2017 changes but after the change it changed to these vague overviews of sections.

So is there anyway to find the correct choice when you find 2 results with the same exact heading? Is it just a guessing game at that point? Very lost.
