I’ve wondered about using a tutor. Has anyone found they helped and were they useful?

I did. After failing REG I was close to loosing credit for FAR. So,I decided to look for a tutor. Finding one wasn't easy. I talked to several tutors (from an online application) and some of their advice didn't make sense to me. However, I finally found a tutor who helped me to keep on track and gave me some study tips.
I think it depends on what you are looking for, ask questions before hiring a tutor and use your best judgement. In my opinion it was worth it.
