    Hey all,

So I think this topic has been discussed but I am now worrying about my full time because of one class. I graduated with over 140 Credit hours (switched major) and had an undergrad GPA of 3.57 and I was a guest student at this university where I only took 1 class in Tax. The issue is I received a C in that class. My offer said something along the line of contingent upon completion of 150 hour and maintain academic excellence. Will this one grade have an impact on my full time offer? Any one went through something similar?

I was putting more time in the CPA studying and as result got that grade and now I kinda regret for not studying more for that class since I failed AUD.

Is the 3.57 before or after accounting for the C? What's your GPA after accounting for the C?

I think what's more likely to affect your offer is that (from what I'm gathering) you haven't obtained 150 credits. “Academic excellence” is an intentionally non-specific term, so that they can say “adios” to someone who goes and gets 6 C's after getting their full-time offer just cause they think they're invincible, but can show leniency to someone who got bad grades for a legitimate reason or who got grades within a realm that they feel is acceptable. So, if you can get the 150 credits (or if you have them already and I misunderstood your post), I wouldn't be too concerned about a single “C”, as long as the “C” grade still counts for the CPA requirements within your state (I think some states have a minimum grade requirement).

Lilla, Thanks for the reply. The 3.57 is my undergrad GPA at my 4 year university. The C is from another school. Two different schools because I need 3 additional credits to meet the 150. So that GPA does not include the C. Im not sure if that make any sense. I didnt take the Masters route or anything since I was way over credit and didnt feel the need to take more loans. As of now I do have all 150 met just sent in the transcript to the state.

Guess your reply makes me feel better since it is only one individual class.

    lol spartan you're crazy man.

    With 140 credits and a 3.57 GPA that's 499.8 q-points. Assuming this was a 3 credit class, you now have 143 credits with 505.8 q-points. So you're GPA is like 3.537 now. I think you'll be fine.

So, is the 3.57 the average of 147 credits which were all from your main 4-year university? And the C was the only class from outside? If so, then I think a C is the equivalent of a 2.0 at most schools, so you'd have 147 credits at 3.57 and 3 credits at 2.0, which I think means your overall GPA would be 3.5386 if you calculated in the extra class, so it's not a huge difference in your overall GPA. If that C course wasn't your only course elsewhere, and you had others with good scores, they may bring up that average. (Say you had 144 at your alma mater, an A elsewhere, and this C elsewhere, so it was 144 at 3.57, 3 at 4.0, and 3 at 2.0, that's 3.5472 overall.) My GPA calculations may not be exact and I think different schools do them slightly differently (like some calculate and weight C/C+/C- all differently, I think), but it still gets the basic point.

I didn't do a Master's, either – graduated with 123 credits IIRC, then took additional courses over the next few months to get the credits I needed while looking for a full-time job. I didn't have a job offer hinging on certain grades or anything, but didn't want to invest the money in a Master's at that point in time. Now I'd like to get an MBA someday, but might wait for an employer-paid one. 🙂

EDIT: I typed too long (as always lol), Biff beat me too it. 🙂

If you got the job, don't worry about the gpa….trying to get Honors? well, what's the point of spending money to take the class again? Go on to be a great CPA and make all the money for all of us. You want a challenge….get 95 or more on this cpa exam and get the award and the money. Will that be an option after the exam is changed? (the award)

    It begins with a 75

I am sure you will be fine. When I have to take menial classes I always take the credit no credit option so I don't jeopardize my GPA.

Thanks for all the response. I wasn't sure how to calculate the GPA with the C factored in. Yes, Lilla the 3.57 was my overall at the 4 year university and the C was the only class from outside. I guess I am just worrying too much!

    @tncincy
, I dont think I still have the chance of 95 haha. These exams are so much harder than the classes, I will be happy with a 75! 🙂

    HEY!
I'm a senior starting to work in EY in July 2016. I am worried about EY's gpa requirement for after you accept an offer. I first accepted my offer when I had a 3.6 GPA then it went down last semester to a 3.48 , now im hoping it doesnt go very low. But does anyone know the policy of how high of an overall/major GPA u have to retain?

Hi fellow Spartan don't worry you GPA is still good! Most mid-size firms in our area accept GPA's as low as 3.2.
