Man.. I don’t know what it is but I’m getting really nervous about not passing AUD again. Scared my company is gonna fire me or something (I know that probably won’t happen). I haven’t even passed 1 exam yet but, is this over yet???

Maybe some words of wisdom/encouragement would be helpful :/

When life gives you lemons.. grab it by the throat and demand more!

Take your own advice. Buckle down, and get it done!

I just graduated college and recently broke up with my fiance and now am going to counseling.. It's a lot to handle all at once.

What did you firm say about your AUD score?

Keep on pushing. You'll get there. The great thing about this forum is that everyone can relate to the exams and knows what you're going through, and many (including myself) have had multiple failures and times where they might not have felt smart enough to do this exam. Eventually you'll find what works for you and you'll start knocking them out, and I speak from personal experience on that one. I passed 3 exams in the last 2 windows, which is more than I have ever had before. In almost 3 years, I've never been this close to being done with this stuff. Seriously – just stay dedicated to the process and keep pushing through and you will get there.

    REG - 75
    FAR - 7/15/16

@eMeRGeD I'm sorry you're feeling that pressure and anxiety, wondering if your company will let you go, due to your not passing exams yet. I would suggest that you sit down with your manager or a partner (someone who you ultimately report to, and who you feel comfortable around), and open a dialogue about your intentions with the CPA exam, your struggles with it, and try to gauge their thoughts on the matter. Perhaps they DO have a deadline in mind for you to pass the exams, but you can't know that without talking to them about it. In my case, I had a lot of support and encouragement from the partners at my firm, even though it took me a while to pass all of the exams. I took 10 total exams (4 REG, 3 BEC, 2 FAR, 1 AUD), so I'm right there with you, regarding failing exams.

As for passing: just look at what you did the last time you prepared, figure out what you need to improve on, and buckle down and just do it. I don't know if you have family/kids, but just understand the importance of setting a schedule and sticking to it. It's not fun, but it will pay off in the end.

    You can do it!

I hope this is somewhat encouraging/helpful!

That actually brings up a good question – do firms fire people who aren't passing? It won't get them out of paying unemployment, but I'd never thought about that before.
    They shouldn't, and I hope they don't.

@crazyleon I've wondered about this too. My position is entry-level, and the job ad stated “CPA or CPA Candidate”. My firm gives me time to study at work for my first year of employment, so that's kind of an implied, but lax deadline, within the 18 months. My co-worker, with the same job title, has been here almost two years and only taken one section, quite a while ago. I wonder how it will all play out, but the overall environment of the firm, and things the partners say, imply that they want everyone here to be a CPA (apart from the bookkeeper and receptionist, obviously. It's a small firm).

I've never heard of anyone being fired for taking too long or failing too many times, but I can see how for certain firms, like mine, it would play into the decision.

Coming from a guy that just passed after several years of working at my smallish firm, I would say they won't fire you b/c of the failed exam scores as long as you are producing quality work and showing progress in studying and taking exams. My firm was very supportive and understanding of the time and energy it takes to work and study. I finally made the commitment to study hard and not do extra curricular activities as much. It sucked not hitting the bars or the golf course as frequent with friends, but now I'm sitting here on the partner track so it is well worth the sacrifices. Also,

Also, making a study plan. I used Becker so their study plan of essentially a chapter a week worked for me. As well as going to a library with a private study room allowed me to get away from seeing things that needed to be done at home or from seeing that my team was playing so I'll study after the game and then getting sucked into watching another game or 2 and losing a whole day of study time. Give a partner or manager you have a good relationship with a copy of the study guide so they can help keep you accountable or even if you just can't seem to understand a topic the way the teachers are presenting it, they can help you out. I had several sit downs with partners going over various topics of exams.

I think my firm is pretty lenient. It was discussed during the hiring process that they were hiring me under the assumption I'd get my CPA within a few years. Currently I'm trying to fix my engagement that I screwed up, that feels more important than the CPA, but I gotta buckle down and do both.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I'm sure you'll see me around here for a long while 😀
