Getting CPA License with Criminal Record

Back in 2009, I was arrested in the state of Washington for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and received two misdemeanor charges. I got a lawyer and that following summer went into a pre-trial diversion where if I stayed clean for two years, the two charges get dismissed.

The two misdemeanor charges have since been dismissed but the arrest and charge records still show on my background checks. Could these charges have any impact on me being able to get licensed as a CPA in the state of Washington?

Thank you in advance for any input anyone is able to give!

Most likely it won't impact you becoming licensed, but it can affect your job search and advancement. I suggest contacting your state board of accountancy for any relevant information or even contact them directly for the best information.

No, I don't think a misdemeanor will prohibit you. If this is a thought that regularly crosses your mind and if you have the funds, you might want to consider hiring an attorney to have the charge expunged.
