Garbage Profession - Page 4

I’ve been in public accounting about 8 years now and every year it only becomes more and more obvious what a crap profession this is.

The pay is awful, the work is boring, and you get to see people making money because they chose the right profession by being an overpaid doctor or a stock hustler.

I know i’m bitching and moaning but I honestly wish i had a time machine to go back and never get my mba or my cpa license and study medicine or something so I can be part of their protected cartel.

Since I don’t have a time machine handy is there any way to get out of this horrible “profession” and into something that actually has advancement opportunities and good pay? I’d like to not make the last 10+ years of my life be a total waste and find something that I can at least leverage my education with. I realize my “experience” is mostly transposing numbers into a computer screen and totally worthless.

Any thoughts? Before you try to convince me how wonderful accounting is and how good the pay is, don’t bother. I’ve been in this joke of a “profession” long enough to see how little hope there is.

I’m seriously considering working as a farm hand and chucking hay bales for a living because it would be a more rewarding and pleasing job than this awful horsesh**.

@Martin, Yes Trump talks like an elementary student but I guess because not many people understand all those big political terms and he is trying to dumb things down to attract more voters, perhaps? either way I do not agree with his political views. NO, I am not a liberal. Cruz is who I support. End of story πŸ™‚

I was going for Rubio, but since he is gone, I might go with Ted. Hilary VS Trump, who would you pick?

I would just stay home if that turns out to be the final 2. Neither in my opinion are qualify to lead. Clinton thinks she is superior because of her last name and her previous position. She was not held accountable for the Benghazi attack and look how her email scandal is turning out. Trump on the other hand, No comment! he should just be quiet.. Have you listened to his rally speech? All he says is build a Wall.. he should ask people to calm their A$$ down and not incite violence and even make fun of other protestors as they are being escorted. Seriously, that is how a leader should be? The great thing about America is we may disagree but we should peacefully explain to others about our views and not punch and kick others for their beliefs. I apologize for my rant..

LOL happygal, though Bernie sounds genuine but his ideas would not be good for the economy. He wants everything to be FREE!! There is no such thing. Someone has to pay for it, right? Now, please explain to me for those that support Bernie because I see his policies as a disaster. Y r we turning this into a political post? Haha

Spartans92, you think the typical Accountant would also be a republican? This could be interesting.

@Spartans92 lol I totally understand your point, I do think Bernie Sanders is very genuine but some of his ideas may not be practical, but what other choices may be left,
Trump, among all the other things he says that are inflammatory it really ticked me off when he said that he would want to sue the media for any negative stories about him, if he wants to make America Great Again why just on his own terms, he always boasts about how America is different from the rest of the world so why take away the freedom of press, yes I know the media is not always responsible, but in my opinion Trump just doesn't want the world not know about his shady business deals, and as President one has to be open to all the “good” attention as well as the “bad”
From the way I have heard Kasich speak and behave I feel like he would be a strong president as compared to the other Republican front-runners, but he is just not winning in numbers, and I wish he got a little more media attention so I could know more about his stance on certain policies
From the time I have been 10 years old I have been a huge fan of Bill Clinton, but the more I learn about politics maybe not as much for Hillary
@ Martin, lol, I am not a pro-socialist, but I feel like this election cycle has been very interesting in that people may not be voting for who they completely believe in and absolutely want to be President, but actually just trying to prevent others from becoming President because that scenario would be more catastrophic for not just our country but also compromise our international relations
btw I miss Marco Rubio and his “yoga” joke was epic
Sorry if I offended anyone, I am not really a political person but this election cycle has been so interesting and scary at the same time. Btw I haven't zeroed in on who I am voting for in November, I was just curious about what you guys thought about Bernie since all the other names popped up on this forum. Everyone on this forum is amazing regardless of who you vote for πŸ™‚
Good luck with your exams πŸ™‚

The posts about “I had such a good GPA I should have done something harder” cracks me up.

I to had almost a 4.0, doesn't mean I should have done med school instead. Totally different beast.

You should definitely get an MD and practice medicine.

Here's why. I used to do IT and now work in Finance and am halfway through the CPA exam and work experience requirement in Texas. My neighbor is an MD and quit after a decade to go into IT. You could close the loop!

@trl7111 – You've got great credentials and solid work experience at a public accounting firm…you could leave public and get any job in industry you want because all employers are looking to hire people with your credentials and someone who has public experience! You are definitely in a position to negotiate whatever you want with any company in industry…the world is your oyster! Good Luck!

P.S. I think everyone gets discouraged – I get discouraged often too. Just the other day (after a horrible week at work) I offered to quit my job and work for my little brother who does construction, I offered to do whatever: paint walls, pound nails, glue stuff…we all snap from time to time πŸ™‚

Bernie Sanders all the way to the white house!

He represents a movement to break up the establishment's cob web of political alliances and stand up for his principles which he has been consistent on for decades.

Every developed nation offers universal health care and free or affordable college education, some contingent of passing standardized objective exams. Even many third world nations offer universal health care and free/affordable college.

It benefits society and the economy overall to maximize competition for university entrance by offering free or affordable education (and health coverage) to our best and brightest prior to them becoming economic producers!

    So off topic!
