I recently came across this idea spending time with my nephews. I started singing the accounting ABC’s to them! I actually realized how powerful of a mnemonic it is especially in a section specific area. For example, I’m on REG:

    A – Adjusted Basis
    B – Business Law
    C – Contracts
    D – Dividend Received Deduction
E – Exemptions or maybe Estates
    F – Fair Market Value
    G – Gross Income
    H – Holding Period

I was able to recall specific details related to Dividend Received Deduction – 70%, 80%, 100%. Then My mind drifted to C-Corps and all the mess that they have. Limited Liability, Taxed on Dividends. Etc. etc.

By no means will this guarantee a pass, but it’s engaging to think about. I’m tempted to write down my ABC’s on the Prometric scratch sheet prior to Exam Launch.

Has anyone else thought of creative ways to recall information in a time crunch or over the whole process?

I will also print off 1 or 2 problems and use that as my structure for understanding a specific chapter. I try to explain it out loud as simply as possible. I find that MCQ’s are great, but I also think it’s important to think outside the box. But to do it efficiently as well.

Good luck out there, take care of yourselves!

My problem with mnemonics is that I have to focus on memorizing what everything stands for instead of actually memorizing the material…I only could use the C R I M E mnemonic for BEC, and that's about it:) LOL! But I am happy it has worked well for you!
