So what do you say to a life long friend that wants you do their accounting homework? He’s in MBA program and he just emails me his assignment talking about can you do this for me because I have no clue and since you are a CPA you should breeze through it. Really? Its pretty much simulations capital budgeting stuff from BEC and preparing Balance sheet schedules etc. I mean, I can do it but it will definitely take me 3 hours to do and that’s time I just don’t have right now let alone im still recuperating from all the exams I took myself lol.

Friend or not, the answer is pretty clear here.

First off, as a CPA you are held to certain ethical standards. Doing somebody's homework for them isn't on the same wave-length as falsifying financial statements or something like that, but it still doesn't reflect well on our profession.

Second, do you really want to see people who feel the need to cheat on their school-work earning MBAs? Bear in mind that most MBAs go on to work in Finance or Consulting. Do you expect your friend to show a higher display of skill or integrity in the workforce than he does in the classroom?

You might want to rethink your friendship with this person. It sounds like he's using you.

Here's another idea – do the homework, and answer every single question incorrectly. When he comes back to you all pissed off, shrug your shoulders and tell him your brain was fried from the CPA exam. Oops. Then laugh hysterically.

No one has time to do someone else's homework. I am 99% sure he will be fine with you saying no on this. He probably really does think it is easy for you. Even though we were all accounting students I am sure we can all relate to how aversive this type of homework can be!

Anyway … just say no like you plan. I doubt you will get much protest.

Yeah, if you want to help your friend out, offer to help coach him on the material so he can do it on his own. It's not like you'll be able to sit down and takes his exams for him after all.
