Hey! The NINJAs are giving away 3 pair of Powerbeats 2 Wireless earbuds – your choice of color.

In the video, I said that they were $200-$300, but they’re actually $150-ish (the mall walker distracted me, I think and I was thinking of the over-the-ear headphones). SO … I’ll give away 3 pair instead of 1.

To Enter: Post your best advice or “tip” for anything CPA Exam or accounting related…it can be CPA Exam, Busy Season, Resume, Big 4, Interview, Getting Hired/Fired, etc. Please label your tip.

    Example:

[CPA Exam Tip]: Always take the 1pm exam – never the 8am. You’ll have more time to study and there’s no risk of oversleeping

    or

[Big 4 Tip]: During networking events – don’t be the dude throwing back the beers. Nurse it. You can pound beers later when it won’t matter if you make a fool out of yourself.

    etc.

**Please do NOT post something like “buy company ____ and you’ll pass” … that’s spam, not a tip***

(Unless it’s NINJA – then NINJA spam is always welcome, encouraged, and appreciated.)

Who Wins? On Friday (1/29 – deadline to enter is 12pm Eastern), I will randomly pick three posters from this thread. I’ll use the RANDBETWEEN function in excel to pick the post(s).

No purchase required to enter…void where prohibited…must be 18 to win, etc.

I will also toss in a NINJA Audio of the winners’ choice – since it goes so well with the earbuds 🙂

One entry per person, please 🙂

[CPA Exam Tips] Use this website link to see a general guideline what to study and focus on per CPA exam section.

    https://www.aicpa.org/becomeacpa/cpaexam/examinationcontent/contentandskills/downloadabledocuments/csos-ssos-effective-jan-2016.pdf

Also, I purchased NINJA MCQ and dedicated full time studying by practicing the questions. With a Bachelor's of Accounting, dedicated time to spend to study every day 4-10 hours, and NINJA MCQ, you can pass each section of the exam with 2-4 weeks of studying. I averaged 2 weeks, anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

Final tip, study the MCQ by each SUBSECTION, new questions only. After you complete every subsection or subcategory, complete 5 troubled questions to completion. Review simulations and then just do 5-10 random MCQ and 5 troubled til exam day for review. This strategy works well for me, and if you do struggle on one exam after this strategy, feel free to pick up note cards, audio or regular book to supplement. For the most part, this is sufficient because each question provides links and information on why each question is wrong, correct, and additional information for your knowledge.

    HIYA!

(CPA Exam Tip) Do not forget to practice SIMS it could make or break you on the exam. I did not practice any SIMS when i took FAR and i failed with a 74. I could have got that one extra point needed if i had practiced some SIMS.

    FAR - Passed 4/2016
    AUD - Passed 11/2015
    REG - ?
    BEC - 05/28/2016

[CPA Exam Tip]: Keep a consistent study schedule and set goals each time you sit down to study. It is easier to stay on task when you have a plan rather than studying here or there with no set schedule.

[CPA Exam Tip] Do the MCQ by section. It did wonders for me to do all the MCQ by topic for each part. Once I felt comfortable with a topic, I would move on to the next topic. Doing this, I was able to bring a 71 up to an 84, my highest so far! I used the NINJA MCQ, and I love that you can customize your studying!

[Exam Tip] My biggest piece of advice is to schedule. schedule and schedule some more. Someone suggested to me to schedule the tests for Mondays. Then you have 2-3 uninterpreted days of studying plus you don't have to take extra days vacation if you are taking the test while working full time. However, Monday's fill up fast.

I would also suggest to check out the tentative score release date so that you could potentially reduce the amount of waiting you have to do to get your score. I didn't think of it for this last test now I have to wait 20+ days…

Test order.. I think this is valid especially with test changes. I wanted to make sure to have the tests that are going to be most impacted by the addition of the Document Review simulations completed before the change went into effect.

A lot of variables to consider. Best of luck!

Exam Tip – Give yourself enough time to study for each section, make a plan and stick to it, don't wait til last minute! Do as many MC's as you can to drill the content you are unsure of. Read and take notes!

I haven't taken any parts of the CPA exam yet, but my strategy is:

Set test dates and write out a study plan.

Include days off so not to to burn yourself out.

    Break content into manageable sections.

Work out in the morning during busy season.

The exercise raises your endorphin level and you will feel a lot less stressed. It sounds crazy, but it helps! If you are sitting at work all day your body will make you feel awful.

[CPA Exam Tip]: Pack your bag the night before (including your NTS & Id). I make a practice time schedule for myself and stick to that guideline so I leave enough time for my SIMS (ex. 40 min for each testlet and 1 hour for Sims). Most importantly no need to stress once you start the test, there is nothing you can do at that point. Take a moment to close your eyes and regroup and keep going.

[Big 4 Tip]: Network, network, network!!! Joining an association was the best thing I did for my career. I have been able to meet with Partners, professionals and like-minded peers. I have had the best experiences at conventions, career fairs and networking events.

[Ninja 10 point Combo]: I am still waiting on my score to come back but I felt more than prepared for REG using only the 10 point combo and would highly recommend it. I did the MCQs and rewrote my notes the last two weeks. It put my mind at ease during the exam.

    [Interview tip]

I always show up 10-15 minutes before an interview to assure a good parking spot and to use the restroom. Using the restroom will do 2 things. 1. You wont have to go during your interview. (which believe me, some interviews can run hours). and 2. You can check your suit, hair, tie etc in the mirror to make sure you are looking sharp. Also use the 10-15 minutes to review your resume.

    BEC - 77 (5/16)
    AUD - TBD (8/16)
    REG - 80 (1/16)
    FAR - 76 (8/15)
