Hey! The NINJAs are giving away 3 pair of Powerbeats 2 Wireless earbuds – your choice of color.

In the video, I said that they were $200-$300, but they’re actually $150-ish (the mall walker distracted me, I think and I was thinking of the over-the-ear headphones). SO … I’ll give away 3 pair instead of 1.

To Enter: Post your best advice or “tip” for anything CPA Exam or accounting related…it can be CPA Exam, Busy Season, Resume, Big 4, Interview, Getting Hired/Fired, etc. Please label your tip.

    Example:

[CPA Exam Tip]: Always take the 1pm exam – never the 8am. You’ll have more time to study and there’s no risk of oversleeping

    or

[Big 4 Tip]: During networking events – don’t be the dude throwing back the beers. Nurse it. You can pound beers later when it won’t matter if you make a fool out of yourself.

    etc.

**Please do NOT post something like “buy company ____ and you’ll pass” … that’s spam, not a tip***

(Unless it’s NINJA – then NINJA spam is always welcome, encouraged, and appreciated.)

Who Wins? On Friday (1/29 – deadline to enter is 12pm Eastern), I will randomly pick three posters from this thread. I’ll use the RANDBETWEEN function in excel to pick the post(s).

No purchase required to enter…void where prohibited…must be 18 to win, etc.

I will also toss in a NINJA Audio of the winners’ choice – since it goes so well with the earbuds 🙂

One entry per person, please 🙂

[CPA Exam Tip] Make sure you are keeping your eye on the exam clock & allocating your time accordingly between testlets so that you don't run out of time. Try not to take a break! PS- knock out FAR first. 🙂

[CPA Exam Tip] If you have a full time job and cannot take many days off to study, try to schedule your exam on a Monday. That way you can try to leave early on Friday to study, have Saturday to study, and have Sunday to relax and review.

[CPA Exam Tip] — No matter how much studying you can do, always do more. If you feel like you know every answer to the MCQ's, just keep going!

[Busy Season Tip] — It is a marathon, not a sprint. Do not get burnt out during the months of Jan and Feb otherwise March and April will be hell.

[CPA Exam Study Tip] – If married get your spouse involved. My spouse developed her own memory aids for me. Some of them are very funny and we still laugh about them today.

[Big 4 Tip] Remember your career is a marathon not a sprint. You will not make partner in 5 years, probably not even 10. Take it slow and make the most of each level of your career. There is something great to be gain from each step which will make you a better partner.

[Getting Fired Tip] Take a deep breath and realize there was a reason for this. All the company did for you was expedite the process for you to re-evaluate your career and life and take a risk you may have not taken. They helped you from becoming complacent.

Also a bonus one for [Interview Tip] when you enter the room (this is if it is in his or her office) look at the pictures, decals, etc. For example if there is an autographed baseball from Babe Ruth on the desk; compliment it and ask about the story being it. It will show you are interested and the rest of the interview will feel less like a Q & A.

[Interview Tip] Lighten the Mood! The interview panel is looking for someone who they wouldn't mind working with, someone they can enjoy being around.

It is important to know your stuff, but it is equally important to show off your personality and show what you can bring to the company.

[Interview Tip] Nobody is ever really looking to hear about your accounting ability, rather they want to get to know your personality. The less you end up talking about the job during the interview, the better the interview will go. One of my Big 4 offers came after discussing Fantasy Football for 15 minutes.

[CPA Exam Study Tip]: When you are start to study for a section make a plan, create a schedule that fits your needs, be realistic about what you will be able to accomplish in each study session and build in time to relax and sleep. Also be forgiving things come up. Totally, cliche but its a marathon not a sprint slow and steady, it is much easier to take the time and learn what you need to and get it over with than have to go back and retake the exam.

The best thing I have found to help survive busy season is to work out 3-4 times a week. It is easy to let it be the first thing to go with long hours, but as the stress builds it is really important to have an outlet that is healthy. I find it helps keep me focused at work and the week doesn't take as much of a toll on me.

[CPA Exam Tip]: The more MCQ's you look at and go over, the more prepared you will be for the exam. Even though you may start to memorize the questions after some time, the repetition definitely will help. Also (even though it's tough) you need to sacrifice your social time to study.. it'll pay off when you're done and able to not worry about these exams.

[CPA Exam Study Tip]: Have a study buddy change the number of the question and the answers, so you do not just remember the answer. Also, motivate yourself once in a while, it is a long battle, people feel frustrated, but sticking with it is what separate us from others

[CPA Exam Study Tip] Scheduling your exam on Monday's will give you another weekend's worth of focused studying. I don't plan for anything that weekend except for reviewing for the exam and a workout break to revive my focus.

[Big 4 Tip] Climbing up the ladder shouldn't be your only goal. Spread yourself out to gain exposure in different areas before focusing in on a subject matter.
