Hey! The NINJAs are giving away 3 pair of Powerbeats 2 Wireless earbuds – your choice of color.

In the video, I said that they were $200-$300, but they’re actually $150-ish (the mall walker distracted me, I think and I was thinking of the over-the-ear headphones). SO … I’ll give away 3 pair instead of 1.

To Enter: Post your best advice or “tip” for anything CPA Exam or accounting related…it can be CPA Exam, Busy Season, Resume, Big 4, Interview, Getting Hired/Fired, etc. Please label your tip.

    Example:

[CPA Exam Tip]: Always take the 1pm exam – never the 8am. You’ll have more time to study and there’s no risk of oversleeping

    or

[Big 4 Tip]: During networking events – don’t be the dude throwing back the beers. Nurse it. You can pound beers later when it won’t matter if you make a fool out of yourself.

    etc.

**Please do NOT post something like “buy company ____ and you’ll pass” … that’s spam, not a tip***

(Unless it’s NINJA – then NINJA spam is always welcome, encouraged, and appreciated.)

Who Wins? On Friday (1/29 – deadline to enter is 12pm Eastern), I will randomly pick three posters from this thread. I’ll use the RANDBETWEEN function in excel to pick the post(s).

No purchase required to enter…void where prohibited…must be 18 to win, etc.

I will also toss in a NINJA Audio of the winners’ choice – since it goes so well with the earbuds 🙂

One entry per person, please 🙂

    CPA Exam Tip:
Ratios, equations, nemonics, etc. all these things we jot on notecards to memorize, cram those in right before you enter the testing center, I'm not saying let it be the first time you've looked at them. Once you get seated, and before you lose everything you've crammed in, write everything you can down on your dry erase sheets. That way you can reference those things later during the exam when you would have already forgotten them. Just writing those things down helped me on multiple questions that I know put on the right side of 75!

Schedule your exam before you start studying. It is easier to stay motivated when you have a deadline.

[CPA Exam Tip]: Utilize the Authoritative literature and IRC during sims. The answers ARE in there. Learn how to search properly and use boolean operators. (Look it up). The examiners know that not everyone can remember every minute detail, they expect you to use the AL and IRC. Be comfortable with it and use it to your advantage.

[CPA Exam Tip]: I think some people get so focused on hours spent that they think that's all that matters to getting a passing grade, or they lose steam after achieving a certain amount of hours. Remember, it's not about the hours spent towards an exam, it's the amount of questions and hard work you put in to actually studying/learning the material.

When studying for the CPA exam you should:

-Set a specific deadline (exam day)

-Make your study schedule as if it were your part-time/full-time job.

-Do all MCQ in your study course and supplement them with Ninja products.

-Rewrite and take notes from your videos.

-Do one section at a time.

-Reward your self each week by treating your self to something you may like(beer, chocolate, etc…)

-Do more multiple choice questions. Memorize the method and not the answer.

-Stay motivated and most importantly, dont give up. If you fail, analyse new ways to improve your study habits and increase that exam score. Good luck everyone

To succeed in accounting, the most important thing is to understand yourself as a person, particularly weaknesses. If you are not good at studying, it makes no sense to ask for advice from really smart people who have always had easy times studying. You should ask for advice from people who had awful grades in school, yet advanced their careers due to other reasons (networking, competence, unique knowledge set, etc). If you are currently not good at handling stress, you should either avoid a management position or slowly ask for additional responsibilities to your job to increase stress in increments.

[CPA Exam Tip]: During your final review, make a 1 page study sheet with all of the formulas and tidbits that you believe you MUST remember for the exam. During your review, keep adding to this sheet and studying it. In the parking lot before the exam, make sure it is the last thing you look at before you walk into prometric. When you sit down in front of the instructions screen, try and reproduce this study sheet on the given boards. Be mindful of the 10 minute alotted time limit though, as you must accept the instructions before the time is up.

[CPA Exam Tip and Fitness during Study]

Study while working out. Watch videos while on the treadmill or exercise bike. This is the link to the fit-desk.

[CPA Exam Tip]: Figure out your own way of studying. For example, in addition to the lectures and multiple choice questions, I would hand write an outline of the entire textbook after completing all lectures and then cycle between re-reading the textbook, the outline, and pounding multiple choice and the information eventually sunk in right before exam time.

[CPA Exam Tip]: Don't half a$$ it! If you're the kind of person that needs to study 2x as long as the average studier DO IT. If you have extracurricular events going on in your life, WORK AROUND THEM. Remember you only have to do this ONCE IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE!

    [CPA Exam Tip]

    1. Save one day a week (for me, Sunday) to go over the material from the prior week so it stays fresh.
    2. Do sets of 100 Ninja MCQs, create sheets of random facts and info you get from the missed questions
    3. Rinse. Repeat.

    [CPA Exam Tip]:

Always make sustainable goals. I would force myself to study 20 hours a week no matter what. Because the number wasn't to high or low I would push myself to reach the goal.

I would have large pitcher goals like study 160 hours for far, and then make day to day goals as well.

The best advice I could give when interviewing is to just be yourself. Nerves are ok, but a little humor at the beginning of the interview always breaks the ice. Also, if hired in an industry position, that is not accounting related, always act like you know more than the bosses. Even if you don't.
