Hey! The NINJAs are giving away 3 pair of Powerbeats 2 Wireless earbuds – your choice of color.

In the video, I said that they were $200-$300, but they’re actually $150-ish (the mall walker distracted me, I think and I was thinking of the over-the-ear headphones). SO … I’ll give away 3 pair instead of 1.

To Enter: Post your best advice or “tip” for anything CPA Exam or accounting related…it can be CPA Exam, Busy Season, Resume, Big 4, Interview, Getting Hired/Fired, etc. Please label your tip.

    Example:

[CPA Exam Tip]: Always take the 1pm exam – never the 8am. You’ll have more time to study and there’s no risk of oversleeping

    or

[Big 4 Tip]: During networking events – don’t be the dude throwing back the beers. Nurse it. You can pound beers later when it won’t matter if you make a fool out of yourself.

    etc.

**Please do NOT post something like “buy company ____ and you’ll pass” … that’s spam, not a tip***

(Unless it’s NINJA – then NINJA spam is always welcome, encouraged, and appreciated.)

Who Wins? On Friday (1/29 – deadline to enter is 12pm Eastern), I will randomly pick three posters from this thread. I’ll use the RANDBETWEEN function in excel to pick the post(s).

No purchase required to enter…void where prohibited…must be 18 to win, etc.

I will also toss in a NINJA Audio of the winners’ choice – since it goes so well with the earbuds 🙂

One entry per person, please 🙂

Simple – Study until your brain gives out. Give yourself at least 2 full weeks of non-stop MCQ before the test. Schedule your tests for 1st thing in the morning – Monday preferably so that you get in, take the test and can move one. Depending on your state, get your NTS at the beginning of a testing window – you then have 2 testing sections available if life gets in your way. I study very early in the morning – starting around 3 AM until 6 AM when I have to go to work. I can't think after work so this works for me and I get 3 full hours of complete silence to work in. I do at least 3 hours each day Saturday and Sunday but not much more than that because life does get in the way. I use my phone to do review questions during the day at work and I take my tablet (generic and not great) everywhere to read and do questions if I can get WiFi. Most importantly – never give up. You are important and worthy of becoming a CPA.

[CPA Exam Tip]: When actually taking the exam read the ENTIRE question and ALL of the answers. Even if you think one of the first answers is correct, read the rest!

If you do not pass the first time, do not base your study time and study materials off your first score. Just because you made a 72 the first time does not mean that you need to study enough to make another 3 points… You need to study enough to make a 75. There is a difference between those two

[CPA Exam Tip] The way I use flagging questions is to flag questions that I know are 100% correct so I don't go back and look at them again and maybe change to an incorrect answer.

    CPA Exam Tips:

MCQ are your best friend! Get to know them very well and you will go far. If you don't pass an exam don't get too discouraged just pick up where you left off and retest ASAP! Also, only purchase one NTS at a time. This may save you a lot of money and heartbreak. Lastly, make a solid study plan and push yourself to stick to it!

[CPA Exam Tip]: Concentration is very important for these exams. It helped me a lot to eat a healthy food, like grilled salmon and veggies the days before my exam. Also, do as many MCQs as possible and if you fail just start over. Each exam is a new exam!

No matter how good you are doing in the practice exams or test banks don't get over-confident and relax on your studying.

When your brain feels fried from multiple MCQ's, SIMS& note taking, stop and do something you like. It could be talking to friends/family, venting about the exams to coworkers, watching a 30min show on TV or going for a walk! It ALWAYS helps to take a step away and go back to think about it. I have even taken the “allowed” breaks during the exam just to splash cold water in my face and give myself a little pep talk in the bathroom mirror :).

[CPA Exam Tip] When you have really long questions, read the STEM of the question first. Sometime all the extra material is just that extra to through you off.

[CPA Exam Tip]: When studying for the exam, make your own flashcards so that you can combine information from all of your different study materials.

    [CPA Exam Tip]:
Read your book first to get familiar with concepts, but once you're done with that just concentrate on the MCQs. Take notes from the mistakes you make, and read your notes 1 or 2 days before your exam. Go into the test center feeling confident. Is really hard to feel 100% ready, so just trust what you know and try avoid double guessing. Stick to one answer, move on and leave enough time for SIMS.

    CPA Exam/Life Tip:

Never give up. I have n working on this exam for almost 3 years and have failed many. You really just need to get back into the exam and study like hell. [Resume]: Always proofread your resume prior to applying for a position and ensure that all items pertaining to the job for which are applying exists within your document.

Determine if you are a morning/night person and then try to block off a chunk of time either in the morning/night to study. I'm a morning person, so it worked great to wake up early and get a few hours in before work. In addition, schedule exam Monday morning, which will give you the whole weekend to only review. Rather than working and studying, you can spend the last two days simply reviewing!
