Hey! The NINJAs are giving away 3 pair of Powerbeats 2 Wireless earbuds – your choice of color.

In the video, I said that they were $200-$300, but they’re actually $150-ish (the mall walker distracted me, I think and I was thinking of the over-the-ear headphones). SO … I’ll give away 3 pair instead of 1.

To Enter: Post your best advice or “tip” for anything CPA Exam or accounting related…it can be CPA Exam, Busy Season, Resume, Big 4, Interview, Getting Hired/Fired, etc. Please label your tip.

    Example:

[CPA Exam Tip]: Always take the 1pm exam – never the 8am. You’ll have more time to study and there’s no risk of oversleeping

    or

[Big 4 Tip]: During networking events – don’t be the dude throwing back the beers. Nurse it. You can pound beers later when it won’t matter if you make a fool out of yourself.

    etc.

**Please do NOT post something like “buy company ____ and you’ll pass” … that’s spam, not a tip***

(Unless it’s NINJA – then NINJA spam is always welcome, encouraged, and appreciated.)

Who Wins? On Friday (1/29 – deadline to enter is 12pm Eastern), I will randomly pick three posters from this thread. I’ll use the RANDBETWEEN function in excel to pick the post(s).

No purchase required to enter…void where prohibited…must be 18 to win, etc.

I will also toss in a NINJA Audio of the winners’ choice – since it goes so well with the earbuds 🙂

One entry per person, please 🙂

[CPA Exam Tip] Just get the audio lectures and listen to them whenever you have free time. These 10 minutes 15 minutes will start adding up to huge amount of extra study time.

This seemed to help me on my tests: get about 2 stacks or more of index cards from the dollar tree or walmart for each section of the test your taking. As your taking the MCQ test banks and an especially difficult question comes up, or a question you keep missing for some reason comes up, or an important concept comes up that your not clear on: write something on the index card like a tip or something for you to remember the concept or even write the whole mcq question down if necessary. Then review these cards at some point during your study review. I would sort through the stack and read some of them on the way to the test center as I was driving ( at red lights of course). I also had taped a bunch of these up around my house and once in awhile I would look upon them and the concept would come right back instantly.

[CPA Exam tip] Take a section of the exam each testing window. Hopefully it will be in 4 windows and you're done, but if not, then you will keep moving forward as opposed to “i'll take a window off” turning into a few years and a huge amount of regret!

[CPA Exam Tip] – You're only considered a failure if you give up.
Keep doing the multiple choice and use Jeff's “How to Pass the CPA in 20 days” method. I can vouch for my friends who passed only doing this (all 5 of them!) but make sure you take plenty of notes and memorize the concepts.

My CPA tip: Take breaks – if you are studying while working make sure you take a break between work and studying to energize! Take advantage of your weekends for studying…week days are rough!

My Busy Season tip: Drink a lot of water – it will keep you hydrated…BUT it will also keep you moving – whether it is getting up for another glass of water, or getting up to use the restroom! Take breaks, and PLEASE if you are that tired, don't drive home…safety first!

    [CPA Exam Studying Tip]

Did you know that Abraham Lincoln read his newspaper aloud every morning?
It helped him remember more and for a longer period of time than when he read silently.

I've tried it and it has worked for me when I had to memorize those crazy concepts, formulas or mnemonics.

[Study tip] It might seem like a waste of paper, but print sections of the book that you have trouble with. A hard copy is sometimes your best bet.

[CPA Exam Tip]: Don't sign up for all 4 exams at one time for your NTS. Trying to save money on the application fee is not worth it! Give yourself about a two week break in between the exams, but do not space them out too far apart. This will allow you to have the opportunity to take a section again if you fail without feeling pressure to start studying and take other parts during the 6 month period.

[CPA Exam Tip]: Be a SUPER Ninja – get the BLITZ (it probably just saved me on FAR)!!! Then use Jeff's “How to Pass the CPA in 20 days” method and don't sign up for all 4 exams at one time. Trying to save money on the application fee is not worth it!

    HIYA!

[CPA Exam Tip]: Don't spend more than 6 weeks on any section. You'll just forget the things you learned in the first couple weeks if it takes you more than 6 weeks.

CPA Exam TIp – don't underestimate the power of repetition. Be the Peyton Manning of CPA Exam multiple choice questions.

Busy Season Tip: Keep yourself nourished, and if you don't know something don't just spin your wheels. ASK a senior or manager!!

[CPA Exam Tip]: Take an exam between noon and 1pm. You not just have time for a good sleep, revision in the morning and a relaxed lunch (sometimes before local restaurants are busy). At least at my closest test center, 8:30 can have upwards of 30 candidates for the earliest daily testing times and it can be hectic and disruptive. By booking at noon, there are usually no more than one to three other candidates booking in, so the process is less stressful and easier in terms of not being disruptive to exam mindset.

Don't take to long in between studying and sitting for a particular part of the CPA. You will forget a lot of things and would have to relearn again. A total waste of time
