    I am 6 credits short (144/150) to obtain the credits needed for CPA licensure. I had passed all four exams a few months ago. I am in New York State which requires 33 accounting credits and my 6 remaining credits all need to be towards the accounting credit requirement.

    I came across Foothill College and it looks like a fast and affordable option. They also offer a wide range of courses. Does anyone have any experience taking online courses through Foothill? I understand it is a CA community college and I am from NYS but that should still be ok?

    Also they are on a quarter system so each course is 5 unit credits. Does this need to be converted to semester credit hours towards 150?

    Thank you in advance!

    All the community colleges in CA are accredited and the Cal States and Universities all accept credits from those programs. Foothill College is in Silicon Valley and has a pretty good reputation.

    Yes, the credits will be converted to semester units. A 5 quarter unit class is worth a little over 3 semester credits (I am pretty sure they divide it by 1.5).

    It wouldn't hurt to contact your state board and make sure those credits will be accepted.

    I was in a similar situation – I ended up taking individual income tax, governmental, and payroll at Foothill College to qualify for the CPA exam. I live in California and our State Board of Accountancy accepted those online units no problem. I see no reason why NY would reject it. The school has a stellar reputation and is fully accredited. The individual income tax can be tricky if you never did taxes before – but I had VITA experience… piece of cake… payroll class was a piece of cake…. governmental was extremely difficult due to the horrible textbook they use for the online class. I took this in 2011-2012, so YMMV now.

    @oaklandr8dr:
    Did you take the courses online? Did you find them to be difficult and time consuming? Do you have assignments every week?

    i took 8 online classes at Foothill to obtain my credits before sitting for the exams. Since it's all online you do have plenty of assignments each week but it's easy. also depends on who your professor is.

    I am thinking about taking 3 online classes this summer including 2 classes from Foothill: Advanced tax and Ethics. I work full-time with no kids. No plan to take vacation. Do you think it is manageable to take 3 online classes for 5 – 6 week term?

    it's doable but since you work FT, you will def have to sacrifice your evenings and weekends to get the assignments in. but it's all online you have the book in front of you so theoretically should be able to get to the right answers faster.
