So although I’m not up to my review phase yet, I anticipate on having 3-3.5 weeks to review for FAR. What do you all think would be the best and most efficient way to both refresh and re-learn some material while also getting practice in?

For previous exams, I had 2-2.5 weeks to review and essentially reread the entire textbook while outlining and doing some MC per chapter, then progress tests and the mock exams. However, I ultimately only did probably around 400MC questions during those 2 week periods and I didn’t feel very confident, despite passing. In addition, FAR has so much material that rereading and outlining might take a lifetime.

Any advice on how to review more effectively? A coworker suggested I get the Becker final review for FAR, which I know nothing about.

During my review period I did all the MCQs in Ninja once. I did custom sets by topic, never any random sets. The last 2 or 3 days before the exam, I did all the Sims in Ninja. I didn't reread the textbook. I did refer to the textbook for some of the MCQs and Sims though. I also reviewed and rewrote important journal entries. Never took any progress tests or mock exams.

I highly, highly, highly recommend the becker final review for FAR (especially since you have 3-3.5 weeks). If you have the extra money – it's totally worth it for FAR. It does a great job at summarizing FAR and putting everything together. I just took FAR in May and used the final review. I feel like it really helped me – if I pass it has to be due to using the becker final review. If you don't want to spend the money on that, then I recommend ninja notes. Those seem like a great tool as well. I just didn't have enough time to go through them in my review period.

That's a pretty long time. I think the most important thing for FAR is keeping the material as fresh as possible, simply because there is so much of it. Hit your weak areas hard then work your way through the rest of the material as your review. Read notes over every single day and do as many MCQ's as possible. Like I said, keep everything fresh.

That's a long time to review. Well one piece of advice I have to keep things fresh is do rolling chapter quizzes. I did FAR from start to finish in 3 weeks (Feb 2016) and after lectures I'd use Rogers MCQ software to generate sets of questions over two or three chapters then roll them. For example one night would be over check 1-3, next night 2-4 etc. It really helped me to keep things fresh and keep momentum. It's really easy to get bogged down in FAR bc it's so much. During my review period (4 days) I spent two days reviewing problem chapters (for me it was govt non profit and cash flow stmts), 1 day on Sims (with many research Sims to learn the AL) and then 3 practice exams on the last day.

I highly recommend Against Becker Final Review, having used it myself for FAR. In addition, I highly recommend Against supplementing your study material, provided you have a strong, reputable study set such as Surgent, Ninja 10 point combo, Becker, etc..it's overkill. We put too much pressure on ourselves, want to do Everything we can to help us pass, just relax.

CPA exam is challenging, yes, but it's not some totally foreign beast we haven't seen before. It's just like any other test, just yeah, a lot more to learn, a lot higher fail rate.

Don't look for advice, tricks, secrets, shortcuts, etc.. Read the chapters, listen to the lectures, learn the material, do the homework, repeat, just like you always did. Best of luck…

Government and Not for Profit. Seems like under the new exam some people are getting barely any questions on it (like me) and others are seeing it as half their test (like others on A71).

Leases – Not a difficult concept but highly pervasive on test. Know when to and not to capitalize leases.

Chapter 1 in Becker – Very easy stuff. Practically “gimme” points.

Whichever chapters in Becker/Wiley/Etc that you where weakest in. But don't organize them from weakest to strongest. Organize them in pervasiveness on the test. i.e if you are scoring 40ish on a Chapter that is 15% of the exam and 60ish on a chapter that is 20% of the exam, focus on the second one. you might be scoring better, but its worth more.

I passed by only doing Ninja MCQs my last two weeks for both Audit and FAR. I took notes on the questions I missed and did all the SIMS. I tried to do all the Ninja MCQs twice but got burnt out the week of the exam.

@paydirt123 Can you tell me why you recommend against Final Review? I just know I'm going to get to my review phase with having retained like half of the information, if that. For all 3 sections I felt like I got through all the material to get a decent understanding, then REALLY learned it during review. So I could do the same for FAR, but being that it has much more info I'm looking for the best way to relearn and review during those like 3.5 weeks or so
