FAR is killing me

I have been studying for FAR the same way I prepared for the other sections of the exam. On REG, BEC, and AUD I watched Roger’s lectures, took notes, and did very little MCQ after each chapter, maybe 30 questions total. I usually break them up into blocks of 10, and incorporate previous chapters just so things stay somewhat fresh. I am a tax guy so REG was a little easier for me, but it was still a great deal of material.

My issue on FAR is that I just feel like there is SO MUCH material. With the other sections I would get through the lectures and begin reviewing, taking notes as I worked MCQ and SIMS. I re-wrote some chapters and rewatched lectures if I struggled with that section. I did feel confident in each of those and that there were only a few topics I wasn’t comfortable on. I feel like I knew the little nuances and details of those exams. With FAR I feel like I am not remembering all the exceptions or details. I know there is far more material to cover.

Should my approach be a little different on this section? Instead of trying to master each chapter just learn the basics and overall concepts and don’t get caught up on not getting 85-90% of the questions correct? I know that I need to learn the concepts and not memorize. I just feel like my approach to this exam could be different given its size. I have purchased the NINJA MCQ and I will be utilizing that as I review. Should I just keep doing MCQ’s on old sections each week to keep those chapters fresh?

I take FAR in early August and I hope it is my last section pending a passing AUD later this month. I go back and forth between feeling like I can do this and feeling like I will be one of those people that can’t pass FAR because I am not smart enough, even though I know it’s a matter of discipline. Thanks everyone.

I found that with all sections it's kind of a circular process..I used Becker and would listen to lectures, do MCQs for each module/chapter, then read book/take notes, and redo the ones I missed…it's tedious but gets you the bulk of material to stick. However, once you get to the end, you almost have to do it all over again because you have forgotten so much…Honestly, leave SIMS for last…They are very important, but serve a better purpose in the final review-that's what I did for my FAR retake and it was a much better approach. I would get through Roger as you normally do, with notes, etc. and then jump into Ninja MCQ by section until you have done all questions and use that as a true gauge of how well you know a topic. then use Roger to relearn, cement your knowledge, all the while doing MCQ…Hopefully this makes sense… Good luck! you still have time to learn everything and fill in the blanks:)

Keep on keeping on. My biggest regret on FAR using Roger was I did not set aside a day to do a cumulative quiz.
By the time I got to my final review phase I felt like there were so many concepts that I forgot and had to re-learn.
At least one day a week do some cumulative quizzes so you keep it all fresh. You should have a leg up on FAR a bit since you have already gone through some of the concepts in AUD and BEC.

Good advice here so far. I'll just chime in to say FAR feels like this for SO many people, myself included. I handled BEC/AUD much better than FAR. It felt impossible to keep all the information straight. Ultimately the more I reviewed (including taking it again)- I started to really feel comfortable with some key subjects, and I was able to balance it out and pass. The more I reviewed and the more MCQs (close to 4000 for my last attempt in Feb) made me feel more confident and I was able to get it done.

Do not let it make you feel you can't do this. So many people think this with FAR. I did, trust me. But you've passed others; you can beat this as well. It may be harder for you than the rest, but not impossible. You are never going to know everything. Maybe 5% of the people that take these exams are exceptionally beyond the rest of us and they do know everything, but for the rest of us, you just have to know as much as you can and trust it'll be enough in time. Good luck!

You should try doing MCQ's topic by topic. That's where I experienced a breakthrough. Do all of them for a particular topic
