Hi – I’m taking FAR on Monday and part of my checklist to do this weekend was to take the FAR sample test on the AICPA’s website. I’ve done the samples for the other 3 I’ve taken and I highly recommend them. Anyhow, I was surprised to receive a Document Review SIM. In the instructions, it says that this SIM will not be introduced until Q2 2016. Is this correct? Has anyone come across this type of SIM in their study material? I’m using Roger and I haven’t seen it. The good news is I did very well on everything else, but I bombed the document review because i wasn’t prepared for it. If it’s not being introduced until Q2, I’m not going to be worried about it. I just don’t want to get blindsided on the exam. Thanks!

I sat for REG early this month and I saw one DRS out of six. I already mentioned it somewhere in my other prior posts that DRS is kind of fancy, trendy, and colorful.

I'd say, that SIM that I encountered was not too hard to answer. It's probably because it's some kind of initial launching, they made it a little less complicated than the old format of SIMS. One would just need more time to spend with SIMs. It's quite time consuming to keep clicking and dragging your mouse to be able to see and tally these documents.

DRS is something you'll have to see in a form of actual attachments like official receipts, tickets, coupons with fancy business logo and signatures of the issuing company cashiers/managers. Let's say, the actual DRS' I saw were like official receipts from the church donations, travel receipts from restaurants/hotels, state tax payments from counties, etcetera. In the existing or old format of SIM, these items are just presented in excel worksheets or rows/columns.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks Amor D – that was very helpful. And if Roger went over it in FAR 1, that shows you how much I remember from FAR 1, which is nothing. 🙂 Yeah, I think had I remembered it I would have not been so caught off guard. The one I encountered consisted of an article written about a fake company's financial statements. I had to toggle back and forth between the analyst's article and the 10K and determine if 6 or 7 sentences needed to be worded differently or kept the same. I think I got 4 out of 7 correct. Had I expected it I probably would have done better, but it just threw me for a loop. I'll be sure and keep that in mind for the exam then. Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken, they won't be tested until Q3 of 2016. I fooled around with it when I did my practice exam last week and it didn't seem too bad. If you happen to see one on your exam it is likely a pretest, but I would still do my best to answer it. Roger does a tutorial on one if you want more info on it.

From the looks of it they arent too difficult..but I suppose if you werent prepared it would throw you for a loop.
