kyle.brownParticipantSo this will be my 3rd try at FAR. First time i got a 74 and this last time in February was a 70 but i did better on the MCQ and worse on the SIMS. I purchased the Roger Cram and going through the Ninja MCQ and Notes, is there anything i am missing or any advice that anyone can give to help get me over this hump? Even if it just a good motivational talk to get me going again.

maloney021ParticipantThird time's a charm. That's when I passed FAR.
Don't try going over only weak areas, make sure you go over everything at least once. The way I got over the hump was when I started putting the big picture together.
The first time, I focused mainly on the harder sections (Acquisition methods, Inventories, Fixed Assets, Leases, Bonds, Pensions, Cash Flows, and Equity). I completely skipped NFP and Govt because I thought they wouldn't make a difference. I scored a 70.
The second time, I focused ONLY on NFP and Govt. and retested as soon as I could. I ended up with a 72 because I didn't review the other stuff.
The third time, I went over EVERYTHING at least once. The stuff I knew well, I touched up on quickly and moved on. The items I struggled with, I made sure I knew the journal entries and practiced the calculations really hard, but the key was that I made sure I reviewed everything. That time I got a 76.
You'll get over the wall, just don't give up! Contribute at least 60-80 hours for this third review. That's about how much time I studied for my third try. Some people need more, some less. Only you can judge that.

MaLoTuParticipantI will be testing in May on FAR for a third time. I agree with maloney, review everything. I got a 70 last time and I feel that I have a good grasp of the material. As you go through this time everything should begin to click. Know your weak areas, but don't neglect the areas you did well in. Hopefully we get it this time. Good luck!

Our value does not come from our skills and abilities, as good as they may be; it does not come from our GPA, our job, a promotion from that job to a better job, our success on the CPA exam, or anything of the like; but our value comes from the fact that we have a Creator who loves us, cares for us, and desires to help us navigate the rough waters of this life in a way that provides security, hope, and true, everlasting joy while we anticipate the life to come, with Him.

MaLoTuParticipantI failed BEC this last release and decided to put the brakes on FAR and just power through BEC, for a third time, smh.
I wanted to mention that when I study for FAR this time I am going to pay a lot more attention to practicing sims. I will do 2-3 a day. I have a person I study with and we plan to go through them together. I also perform bad at the sims. I actually just wrote a post today about my theory about putting zeros. I am super confused by FAR sims.

Texan_176ParticipantOP, how do you rate Roger's Cram?
I am in your same situation. My first FAR try I had not even read the business combinations or cash flows chapters. I expected to fail and did fail.
Try 2 I smoked non-profit, governmental, and 2 more areas. I did worse on frameworks and this was shocking. I also did worse on SIMS but I think it was because I did not enter “o” when no entry was required on multiple problems. I know I got 2 SIMS 100% right and probably did at least average on the others. I did not bomb a single one.
I ended up with a 74.
I worked all NINJA MCQs last time as my only test bank. This time I am doing that, using the Roger test bank, and doing SIMS in both places. I also got NINJA Notes and read/write them. Money is not a concern if I can pass this thing so I would gladly shell out for the Cram but only if it makes an actual difference and is not the regular lecture but with parts edited out to get down to 17 hours.
I am waiting on my NTS so a date has not been set but I am leaning towards week 2 or 3 of May.

kyle.brownParticipantHonestly i like the Cram a lot. Its like 51 sections but they range from 30 min on down. He keeps my focus the whole time and i do like how he explains most of the things so far since i am only about half of the way through but a few topics i will have to go back over in my Ninja Book and CPAExcel since i dont like the way he explained it. Overall i am happy with it and hope it will push me over the hump. He also includes a lot of JE's which i will go back over once i complete the cram.

AnonymousInactiveMay I ask how much was the Roger cram? I think I fail at 69 due to my Sims. Would you recommend the Cram course? I am trying to finish up REG and might consider retake in May.
Thanks,

Texan_176ParticipantI agree about SIMS and how you must practice them for FAR.
I did not do a single SIM to prep for the 3 other parts of the test but with FAR it's not the same.

KJParticipantI am taking my exam my first exam FAR as well in May. I started studying last week. I bought Ninja 10 Point Combo but I have been using Wiley MCQ and SIMS for practice. I'm using Ninja book to read the material but I have 2015 Wiley exam review study guide (so read it from time to time if do not understand some topics from Ninja book). I have been trending between 70-85% from Ninja MCQ's. I have not touched much on SIMS yet. My style is if I get the MCQ wrong I go back to the topic and see why it was wrong. I am writing notes myself from Ninja notes instead of just reading them. If I see something I did not write on the notes (when I get MCQ wrong) I make another stack of notes and include it with my original notes. I have started to listen to Audio this week when I am driving to and from work so that also helps. This is working for me so far but lets see how the rest of the topics works out.
