Failing an Exam

I recently received another failing score for the second time. I scored a 73 on REG with only about 5 ½ weeks of studying. I was not expecting to pass, even coming out of the test I felt like I failed. I crammed studying to fit it in before Q1 ended. I actually was studying for a retake of AUD before I started REG, I previously got a 70 but found out I passed with a 75 about 2 weeks before taking REG on 3/9.

My question is, why does this 73 hurt more right now than the 70 I previously got on AUD back in Q4 of 2016? -.-

    BEC -77
    AUD – 70, 75
    REG – 73
    FAR – TBD

it's 2 stupid points… i'm sure you're like, if i only got that one MCQ that i was 50/50 on whatever. look at my scores, all fails hurt! same result if you get a 12 or a 74!

    BEC - 75 (3x)
    AUD - 78 (3x)
    REG - 67, 66, Aug 1
    FAR - 54, Sept 8

Andrew-most everyone fails at least once if not more. How did you do on the SIMS? I ask because in Q2 SIMS will be worth 50% instead of the old exam of 40% and if you did well on the SIMS that is promising.

Because its the most recent. Just remember this test is crapshoot. The difficulty of this exam comes from the vast amt of material and vague nature of the scoring explanations. Try not to take it personally and move on. The intent with this exam is discourage a certain amount of people. Don't let them win. As I study for my second REG retake my middle finger will be up the entire time. I may even take a pic and send it to our friends at the good ol AICPA as thank you for the 60 and 66 they say I “earned”

@Claudia408 I'm actually more like if I only started a few days sooner with studying I think I would have had it

@shawn_in_VA no clue I still have not received the report yet, but I feel SIMS were my weaker point on that day.

@Wanna_B_TXCPA2014 how long do you suggest for a retake?

Man…you were right there! Don't be discouraged, just keep on hitting the material. All fails suck…from 52-74!

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

@mtaylo24 Planning to get back at it starting Monday, ordering Ninja MCQ and the new Becker book. How long did you study for your retakes I see you've had some nail biters

Aud 61 to 78 was two years, but I studied the whole window
REG 74 to 75 was only 27 days
BEC 73 to 76 was a whole window.

I just got my score report from FAR, makes no sense. Weaker in both MCQ and Sims, but I only missed by 3 points? I got stronger in conceptual framerwork and comparable in NFP, weaker for everything else.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

@mtaylo24 would you suggest a full restart or go through all the questions again and focus on weaker areas? Also hit sims very hard

Since you were so close, I would say mostly questions and tax sims. Read and watch what you truly don't understand. And definitely try to think over your last exam and which questions were WTF status (for me that was mostly BLAW and Ethics), and try to read more on those.

    AUD - 1st - 60 (12/12), 61 (2/13), 61 (8/13), 78! (11/15)
    REG - 55 (2/16) 69 (5/16) Retake(8/16)
    BEC - 71(5/16) Retake (9/16)
    FAR - (8/16)

@mtaylo24 when you get your license you should also get a perseverance award. When I saw your 52 score for FAR and that you still were moving along, it helped me not be so discouraged with my 54 on FAR.

I did my retake on FAR and ended up with a 73 🙁 What upsets me the most is the last week before my exam, I felt like I didn't understand enough. In fact, I posted on here how I didn't even want to show for the exam – I was like why waste my time and why bother? The last weekend before the test, I studied, but didn't stay as focused as I should have and I defeated myself before I even got into the building. Basically, I'm mad at myself for having such a bad attitude.

    @AndrewE
    – I feel you with disappointment. I'm doing my FAR retake in 3 or 4 weeks, already paid for the retake but I haven't got my NTS back yet. I don't know if that timing is good or bad, but I think it'll work. I'm considering buying the NINJA MCQs and actually using them this time around. For $50, can't go wrong. 🙂 I think being so close means you have a good knowledge base you just need to fill in the gaps.

    Good luck!!

@mtaylo24 Got it, I was thinking that going through the lectures again of Becker through the new software but that would have been a waste I believe they are the same as before. I used the 2016 software but with the latest updates.
