this is my first time failing an exam and im really upset with myself.

How do u guys prepare to retakes? Go through the entire material from strach and do more ninja mcq’s?

Do you reset all of your ninja mcq history? Or continue from where you left off?

I know my score report will be a good benefit in guiding me through my preparation and i plan on hitting my weak spots hard! Any other advice or suggestions?

Man,…. This really sucks! For my final review week i basically took the entire 1 1/2 weeks off work for my final review. AND my exam didnt have any areas where i felt i was weak in! Dammit! The AICPA threw me a bone and i still failed!!.. Smh! Now, im affraid that my next exam will have all those areas im weak in and i wont pass again! Smh!

@Jtgebrey Hang in there. I made a 73 my first time through FAR. It was very disheartening. I was already in the middle of studying AUD when I got the FAR score, so I proceeded to finish studying AUR, took (and passed) it, and then went back to FAR. I used Becker, so I don't know if this would help you, but:

I went through and did every single MC question and Simulation from every chapter (Becker).
I rewrote all FAR Ninja Notes, and then read them all 2 or 3 times.
I did countless progress tests covering all chapters (Becker), noting the chapters on which I performed weaker, and then would do progress tests for those particular chapters alone. Then I'd go back and do all-chapter progress tests.

I also spent extra time in areas that I knew I was weak (such as cash-to-accrual, accrual-to-cash, Pensions, etc.).

I didn't read through the textbook again, nor did I re-watch any lectures.

The biggest problem is that you have to make a 75 all over again. Some people drop score in their re-take. I encourage you to hang in there and knock it out of the park next time around. Select a date, create a plan, and stick to it. If you made a 73, you are definitely in a good position to pass next time!

Thank you for the words of advice! Its appreciated!

On areas where u were weak, how did u improve? Did u do more mcq's or did u read the book/watch lectures? Or both?

And how were u able to go back to FAR after AUD and retain so much info without reading the book/watching lectures?

I got a 72 my first go round. I reread the chapters and picked up a lot of things I missed the first time. Then I did the sims.

Reread the book, cover to cover. Work every example in the book that Becker gives you. Understand the flow of journal entries, might take some memorization at first but it will become easier as you practice. Do MCQs in sets of 30 (I would reset and start over). Become familiar with the authoritative literature so you don't waste time come exam day. 73 isn't too far off, just don't get lost and keep your head up.

I failed FAR my first two times, and found out I passed last night on my third try. I would say evaluate where you struggle most. In my case, I knew Becker sections 1 and 2 fairly well so I only did a light review on those. After that, I reviewed the harder stuff (acquisitions, inventories, leases, bonds, pensions, equity, and gov/NFP). I studied those really hard for three weeks and it was just enough to push me over the wall.

After knowing where you are weak, figure out how you learn best. In my case, I would actually listen to lectures when others would say not to because they help me remember things better. After that, I would pound away at MCQ's. I practiced the sims occasionally, but did not do those in-depth.

Keep doing your best. You'll get there.

Thank you guys! I appreciate the feedback ur giving me and the encouragement too!

I guess i should take 2 weeks or so rereading/reviewing areas im weak in them hitting the mcq's hard? Sounds like the same plan i had when i learned the material the first time (except i took 4 weeks to learn the maywrial).

Man,… For some strange reason, the ninja notes were not helpfully at all to me. I spent a week rewriting them and i didnt notice any improvement. If anything, it hurt me seeing how i lost 1 week of studying time. I guess it all depends on how you learn.

Thanks again everyone for ur feedback. And im open to any additional input.

    @Jtgebrey

For the areas in which I was weaker – I did go through those portions of the lectures/text. For example: I wasn't strong with Statement of Cash Flows, so I went through a chunk of that part of the lecture, and worked the relevant Sims.

I didn't retain FAR knowledge after AUD well enough to just go in and re-take the exam. I gave myself about 7 weeks to buckle down and re-study.

Also, since Governmental and Not-for-profit is considered (by Becker at least) to be heavily weighted, I made sure to work all MCQs for those sections at least twice. Those are easy points to pick up.

I also got a 73 on FAR, and this is my first exam. I'm definitely bummed 🙁

I just purchased Ninja MCQ to supplement with Becker, but not sure where to go from here. Should I first do a little review of each chapter, or just hit the MCQ hard?

@OPFailed FAR with 66 in October, this second round I had to be honest with my self. I reread the chapters in Gleim all over again, made sure I did not skip a topic because it was hard for me to wrap my head around it. Then went into MCQs, made sure I understood the reason for each of the 4 choices if they are wrong or right.

In all my other 2 exams with SIMS I never practiced SIMS before the exam, but this time around I practiced SIMS, it helped.
Recognizing your weak areas is crucial as well.

Hang in there and keep at it, you'll get through it.
