Expiring Credit

I have read about the process of credit expiring, but want to make sure I am 100% certain on this so I don’t risk losing credit. My credit for AUD expires on 6/8. I am planning on taking my last section of FAR on 5/27. Based on my research and when I plan on taking FAR, it looks like my score for FAR will be released on 6/9.

As long as I pass, I am in the clear and won’t lose AUD, right? Kind of nervous about pushing up right against my 18 month window…

    Thanks!

    AUD- 71,79
    BEC- 72,77
    FAR- 83
    REG- 63,71,83

    DONE!

Michael, what state are you testing under? Rules vary somewhat from state to state, though I don't think I have heard of any states where the expiration is based on score release date, so you should be good. However, without knowing what state you're testing under, answers are just a best guess.

    Michael,
I am in the same boat in Florida. Unfortunately, I need to pass two exams before June 8th. If you take the test in the final window in May. The score release date is June 9th, so you will receive your passing score after the other credit has expired. I hope I'm wrong but read the details below and feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I believe you have to take all your tests by May 15th in order to receive your passing score in the 18 month window. See the details from the NASBA website related to Florida below:

    Exam Credit

You may take the required test sections individually and in any order, but are required to pass all four sections of the examination within a rolling 18 month period, which begins on the date the score for the first examination section passed was released.

Credit for any section passed shall be valid for 18 months from the actual date the examination scores were released. Examination credit expires by section. You will lose credit for each section passed outside the 18 month period, and will have to retake those sections.

Hard to tell what they mean from that statement. Common sense would be that if you sit for an exam that you eventually end up passing before the credit expires then you should be good. It should not be dependent on NASBA's arbitrary score release date

I'm not taking a chance on rolling the dice and will be taking my exam by May 15th.

I called NASBA and was told that as long as you take the test before the date that your credit expires, that you would be in the clear. I am still nervous though lol.

My pass dates have always reflected the date i took the exam, not the date i received the score. I am in Nevada. I would call your state board to confirm anyway.

So I was right. But yeah, better safe than sorry.

It sounds like Florida dates expiration based on when scores were received (given that both people posting here expire June 8th, and I doubt they both took their test the same day 18 months prior), so it may be that Florida also counts exams as passed when scores are released. You might have found the one weird state that bases expiration based on when the exam score is released, rather than on when the exam is sat for.

Most states base it on when the exam is sat for, both for the first and last exam. So, if you sit for an exam on Jan 18th, it expires July 18th a year later. Looks like if you got the score on Feb 10 then in Florida the score would expire Aug 10, so Florida seems to do it based on release dates.

Point is, definitely talk to the state board (not NASBA!) to confirm. I have seen people post on here that per NASBA, they were fine, then they found out that per their state board, they weren't. Some were able to appeal the expiration and get their credit restored, but they spent 2-3 months re-studying while fighting with the state board and NASBA to see if their credit would be restored or not. Definitely not a situation you'd want to be in. 😐 So, I'd strongly urge that you either get Florida to confirm, or sit in the prior wave.

I called the state and they said that it doesn't matter when the score was released as long as you take your exam before the day that your credit expires. She seemed pretty adamant on it so hopefully she is right. Like I said before, I may just move the test anyway to be safe

I am in Tennessee. On the NASBA site,

AUD Auditing and Attestation 79 Credit 2016-02-23 2017-08-31
BEC Business Environment and Concepts 78 Credit 2015-11-24 2017-04-30
FAR Financial Accounting and Reporting 59 Failed 2015-11-04
    REG Regulation 82 Credit 2015-08-04 2017-01-31

Looks like they expire on the last day of the 18th month after the date you took the exam- I took REG in July. If it were on the date received, my REG would expire in February, not January. It is just confusing because they posted the date the score was received.

And this format is nothing like I posted. 😉

    B | 62, 78
    A | 73, 67, 79
    R | 82
    F | 59, 59, Waiting

    Ethics | 93
