Experience Requirement – Internships

    Hello all-

    Regarding the experience requirement to apply for an original license, does anyone know if time worked during internships is eligible to count towards the one year requirement, or must the 52 weeks come from working strictly as a full-time employee?

    I have had two internships (20 weeks total) at the firm that I will be working at full-time and would hope that I can count that towards the experience requirement. I will also be working within the same specific line of service in which I interned both times.

    My state board (Texas) says that it must come from “full- or part-time employment that extends over a period of not less than one year and not more than three years and includes not fewer than 2000 hours of performance of services”. Did you work more than 2000 hours?

    It is Jan 2015 – March 2015 and Jan 2016 – March 2016, counting OT it should be about 900 hours.

    As long as someone from the company is willing to sign-off on the hours you should be good. My managing partner at my old firm (which I interned at and worked full time at) said it would count. He was a 70+ year old man though so I'm not sure how much he knows about the current rules. This is for PA by the way.

    Might depend on your state. I'm pretty sure it does I'm Minnesota

    i hope it does as i did 3 tax seasons as an intern! one of which was 60-70 weeks consistent lol doesnt matter as i am full time now and by the time i apply for my license i will have done all the hours. still have to get my 150 after the exam is done
