Curious as to which people prefer in the more math intensive exams such as FAR with journal entries and T-Accounts, using the whiteboard to keep track of everything or the spreadsheet in the sims ? I was going to try and use the spreadsheet but I am not really liking the formatting of it..

When I study, I use a small 12″ dry erase board and handheld calculator for doing math, T-accounts, journal entries, notes, etc. I think it is helpful to write things and also gets you in the habit for the real test experience. When I took FAR the first time I used the excel spreadsheet a little but it was not helping, as I had to keep moving it around on screen to see the information.

My second time taking FAR, and REG, I've stuck with using the physical board they provide and request a handheld calculator. I write as much as I can for notes, and for math portions I still use it to jot down my thoughts. Particularly with the simulations, as often the information was coming from multiple source documents. It made it easier to look at the information in its entirety related to the problem. And I just like the old method of writing out math problems and solving. 🙂

Excel. A million times over, Excel. I am an Excel person. =(INDEX(A:A), MATCH(“Leon”,B:B)) hahahaha I've been using it since it debuted in 1995 (I think that was the first edition of Windows?) Those “whiteboards” – laminated pink or yellow sheets with GRIDLINES that are useless because we do not do anything with plotting functions on these exams…why not just give us scratch paper and pencils?

Somebody mentioned to me not long ago that they're putting Excel on future versions of the exam…might be kinda fun, if it's on there while I'm still taking them. I wonder what kinds of questions they'll come up with involving Excel?
