Just wondering if anyone takes a week off or a few days off from work to study before the test date? If so, has it helped?

Some background, I’ve been at this for a while but was struggling. I took a break from the studying and testing for half a year due to new job/relocation. I took FAR in APR and AUD in May and got 74 on both…. -_______- . I’ve improved for FAR by switching from Becker to Yaegar. I have been cursed at the 70s range for Audit for 2 times(passed before but lost credit).

So far, based off of the tests I’ve passed I say do whatever feels necessary. Before taking audit (the first test I passed) I had a “I can re-take it” attitude so I didn’t take any days off. I had the same attitude for BEC right after and failed it so I took some days off for my second attempt and passed. Point is, do it if it feels right. Even if you use those days to just relax and study between episodes of your favorite sitcoms (I truly am my worse enemy when it comes to these exams) at least you’ll be going in to the exam with a little less stress. I would rather do that than listen to you’re coworkers constantly ask if you are worried/stressed/ready/going to finish “that assignment” today or the day after your exam.

I remember when I took my last two exams, I was “forced” to take about a week off from work by the partners of the firm for whom I was working.
My exam was on a Saturday and on Monday, they told me to go home and not come back until the next week. I looked at them and said “Say what?” and they pulled me into a conference room and said “Don't get us wrong, you're getting this week to study for free.”
When I asked what was going on they told me once I get licensed, my billing rate goes up, I get a fat raise, it's a win/win for them and for me (mostly them for now). A non-vacation paid week off was a drop in the bucket compared to the benefits reaped for them and for me (again, mostly for them).
I will always love those two crazy bastards. They never sugarcoat or beat around the bush.

I know myself and taking a couple of days off to study would turn into me taking a couple days off to goof of. I didn't take any days off for the exam and took them all on Saturdays. I studied 5-6 times a week mornings lunch and night, sometimes not all three.

I definitely took a few days off prior to each of the exams and yes it definitely helped. I had it down pretty good. I would always try and schedule my exams on Monday mornings, I would request Thursday and Friday off during the week prior giving me 4 solid days to review and rest before taking the exam. Now, don't confuse taking days off to cram haha because regardless you WILL fail if you do that. The few days taken off prior the exam is important for you, in my opinion, to mentally rest and prepare so you're not flying into the test center frantic with study notes still in your hand but it does not greatly impact your overall preparedness for the exams which you should have been doing weeks before. Now some people have mentioned they were able to take many days, if not several weeks off. That's a different story and that was something I couldn't do at my current firm purely because we were too busy to allow it so I took whatever few days I could right before the exam. But if you can take more days off, then take more days off. No harm there.

My boss usually told me not to come in the day before my exam.
Sometimes its quieter at the office than my house (I have my own office), so depending on the situation I might come to the office instead of stay home, but I can guarantee no work was done.
I definitely slacked in the weeks leading up to an exam, trying to use as much of my time at work focused on my studies as I could get away with. Luckily it wasn't too busy when I sat for the exams.
