Do multiple-choice or matching SIMS really exist?

There are quite a few of these on CPA Excel. Somehow I feel like it’s misleading when these reviews courses say they have a certain number of simulations. Then you come to find out that 20% are research questions and 20% are multiple choice or matching. There also seems to be an ungodly amount of questions with drop down answers.

I can't say I've seen multiple choice in the SIMs, but definitely drop downs. REG is the only one I've taken where there weren't drop downs.

Given that the actual exam has 20% of the counts-for-score SIMS as research, having the materials have 20% be research seems right.

I didn't practice SIMs much, since I thought that the concepts could be more efficiently learned through reading the book and doing MCQs; however, the ones that I did practice seemed fairly similar to the ones on the exam, and drop-downs were definitely part of real SIMs. Really, the only difference between a drop-down and a MCQ is whether you can see all the options at the same time or not.

    P. S. At least most of the time, the SIMs and MCQs in the various test banks you're using are AICPA released questions, so they used to be in CPA exams…so in all likelihood, the types of SIMs in the test banks are very realistic to the SIMs that are really on the exam, since they're questions that used to be on the exam, till the AICPA replaced them with a new one with slightly different facts. So, multiple-choice SIMs must be a thing.

The SIMs in Wiley/Becker/Gleim are old AICPA SIMs? I thought it was only the MCQs.

Wiley seems to really love true/false questions. I'm seeing so many in the SIMs for REG, in addition to the usual proficiency questions.

I just feel like the research SIMs are not terribly useful practice since the AL on Wiley or Ninja is maybe 1% of the size of the real thing. I was a little flabbergasted during the exam. The real thing was soooo dense.

I will say one nice thing about Wiley, they did recently give me (and maybe everyone else) access to the test bank for free.
