Really want to be sure about this before i take the classes. Are LSU online courses recognized by NYS for the 33 accounting credits needed for licensure? Has anyone taken online courses from somewhere else that will definitely count in New York? Thoughts and advice much appreciated!

I know it's a popular online choice but they don't seem to be AACSB Accredited in Accounting. Only in business.

People should check with their state board of accounting before assuming they'll count LSU. Especially online classes.

For what it's worth, AACSB accreditation is not required for the credits to count. Looking at the options on the NY page: https://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpalic.htm it looks like you have 3 choices: pick from one of their approved programs, get a degree from an AACSB approved school, or meet the 150 hours and subject breakout from a non-AACSB school. NY is the first state I've seen to even mention AACSB accreditation on their requirements.

That being said, it looks like NY just requires regional accreditation for the courses, which is the standard accreditation requirement and which LSU does have. There have been several threads on here where people asked if NY accepted the courses, and then they went on to enroll in LSU courses, and I haven't seen anyone come back and say that their courses weren't accepted; however, I couldn't find any where someone said that they had taken LSU courses for NY specifically.

I believe LSU-S is accredited so if you take any online classes from their satellite school you should be fine. I just got my MBA from there.

Only the state board can give a definitive answer.

Even if JimBob had LSU classes accepted (or rejected) last month, that's no guarantee the rules didn't change.

Note, I had already met the 33 accounting and 36 business before taking courses at LSU. So I can only attest to their accepting them for credits. As far as if “do the accounting classes count towards the 33 accounting credits needed”, that I can not confirm, I can only refer you to email Mr. Tomu Itoh at titoh@nasba.org and inquire if LSU accounting courses count towards 33 accounting credit requirement.

If anybody else is interested in this a year later, I emailed the board, and yes, they count.
