So I passed Audit(77) May 12, 2018…

Got married took 6 months to study for FAR- Made a 72
Did a retake 7 weeks later 65 (Yea didn’t handle failing well)

Took BEC (76) passed in June 2019
– At this time I was in a major car accident and I had a broken arm and 2 broken fingers

Turned around and took REG at end of August(71).

So I will most likely lose Audit. Where do I go from here? I am just mentally exhausted. I also did two years of night school to get to this point. Maybe just need some motivation.

Keep after it!! I know it sucks and you feel like it might not be worth it. I struggled with failure. A BUNCH… too much failure haha… I considered giving up and just moving on with something else in my life. But, my wife and my Dad (who is a CPA) kept pushing me and encouraging me. I know for me I had to finally get to a point where it was either pass and get on with life or live with myself always thinking what if.

Also, it's not a terrible thing to fail, or even lose credits. I told myself from the beginning I would never let myself lose a credit… but I did. It's not the worst thing. You just have to decide if the grand scheme temporary pain and suffering of studying and testing is worth being a CPA. I finally passed my last section after nearly 3 years of this nightmare. Keep on, don't get discouraged!

I feel you on being discouraged. Out of college I attempted to take the exams and failed audit 2 or 3 times and BEC once before finally passing BEC only to get married and fall off the wagon of studying… then lost the credit later down the road. My second round I passed BEC and REG then found out my wife was pregnant and again fell out of studying eventually losing both. Around November or December last year I decided to bite the bullet and make it a goal to finish in 2019. I took Aud and passed in Jan, THEN FOUND OUT MY WIFE IS PREGNANT AGAIN!!! But this time I said there is no way I'm stopping. Took BEC in March and passed while my wife was going through pregnancy. Started studying FAR and had to push the date from July to September because I was not ready and my second kid was born in August. I just took FAR yesterday…. pretty sure I failed… but I feel that way every test. Point is don't let circumstances get you down. You think life will get easier, it only gets filled with more responsibility…. but oddly enough you adapt to it. Count those passes as one less test to pass. Knock em out. Don't have kids until you do 😉 !!!!!!

Wow @Lfranc8. So sorry to read your story. As others have said, keep at it and don't be discourage (it is very easy to do I know). It will pay off. Have you thought about requesting an extension to your score credit? It doesn't hurt to ask, especially with your car accident. The least the board will say is no. Please don't give up. This exam process is very taxing to say the least. After 2 years, 6 months, 10 days and 8 exams (with a family of 4) I am finally done. Don't give up hope. Saying a prayer for you.

I feel you. Just retook REG because it expired and got a 72. AUD expires the next window.

One step at a time. I think you can take both exams in three months, or at least try and if it can’t happen at least you know you put in the effort. Say you pass REG and can’t get to FAR until January, maybe your state board will extend your expiration.

Hi Everyone!

Thank you so much for the support. So the accident was really bad. I crossed oncoming traffic, hoped the median and took out a street sign. I had my left arm broken and two broken fingers on my right dominant hand. The accident was on April 18 and I work in public accounting :). I taught my self how to write in finger splints to take BEC. I also did 12 weeks of occupational therapy. I also almost had to have surgery on my right hand. My state board met in July and I could have put in for an extension but didn't because I passed BEC. I did receive extra time on the exams. But honestly, its just been very difficult the last few months. I would only be asking for a six week extension of time. My state board has granted an extension but it was an extreme case. I will find out when they meet again. I am just not sure that my accident is an extreme case. Again thank you all so very much. This test definitely humbles you. Its one of the few things in life I have failed at. I know that sounds crazy! But takes your self confidence down the minimum.

Life is not fair….well depends upon how you look at it. Failure comes with success, but success feels so much better. I have been discouraged so many times until other posters stopped responding. But I am in this for me not words of encouragement, although I do appreciate all that have sent words of support and study tips. So we have to get over ourselves, buckle down, stop procrastinating, making excuses and excepting an “I can't attitude”. I can and I will pass the CPA exam and if I get discouraged again, I'll post again to get some support.

@Lfranc8, God bless you. I hope your recovery goes well. Look up the sun is shining. You didn't have to be in the land of the living, someone else could have gotten hurt. The accident could have been much worse. Take your time, recoup, and get after it again. Don't give up, too many have overcome many obstacles and passed…..SO CAN YOU.

I am so sorry about your accident. So much to be thankful for, and that is your health and well being above all things. Life is so crazy and it never goes along with your plans. You keep at it. You can totally do this. You survived a horrific wreck, a CPA won't be anything in comparison!

Take it from me, I'm 36 years old. I think I did everything wrong/backwards but I am here, cranking out these sections with a toddler, lost job, separation. Hoping to have 2 left to go after today. It is true what everyone says, life gets trickier as the time passes. For me, what I lacked in my younger (20s) days was confidence. It took me going through a lot of things to realize I can pretty much do anything with proper discipline. You can too. Don't let the time pass, just do it!

I feel you on this. One exam at a time. Decide that you will do whatever it takes to pass these exams, just understand what your worst case scenario is- then put it away somewhere and don't think about it. Imagine yourself passing, envision it. If you have to re-take something because it expired- it is what it is. You have nothing to lose ! It's just a test- and this is all for you, no one is holding a hammer over your head saying its life or death if you don't pass these things.

I know its exhausting. I failed three exams before I even passed any. I also had two eye surgerys, (one each winter), and funnily enough, experienced failing score release both surgery days in two different years. I had to explain to my eye surgeon that I was crying because I failed a CPA exam, not because I was about to have a knife to my eye. It really put things in perspective for me. Here I was getting EYE surgery and I was worried about an EXAM. Focus on your health, do what you can, and it will come.

Thank you all for making me feel that I am not alone! I was just so focused on getting through BEC that after that exam I had to deal with the realization that my injury may be permanent (its still healing so I wont really know and I have 2 orthopedic surgeons differing on treatment). Anyway!! Game plan is to take FAR in Dec. I am an office manager for a firm right now and will be moving into a staff accountant position in Jan. We are in public so we have two deadlines right now and I am going to operate under the assumption that AUD is lost! I will apply to my board but I think that is a long shot. I did just pass BEC in June! So 3 to go.

*everyone who has passed with kids you guys are rock stars. I feel like I can barely take care of the dog!

*Also @ICANANDIWILL I was at Mondaynight football with my husband and found out. I went to the bathroom upset and girl turns around and goes “OMG I failed all 4 parts before I passed a section”- It was hilarious! We were at the Saints vs Texans game.

to passed 7 out of 4 tests. Yes, I had to retake multiple sections as they kept expiring. I also had a 4 month window where the AICPA was updating the tests and no one could take a test or schedule anything while waiting to find out if you had passed the previous window's tests. so…there was a long period where the clock kept ticking and you either had passed what you already took or you would have to retake them and the one that expired during the 4 month blackout period.

keep at it. I finally finally finally passed the last section which was a retake of a passed and expired section.

you will never regret finishing, only starting and not finishing.

UPDATE:

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I applied to my board and then did grant me an extension because of my car accident and injuries! I will be taking FAR on Dec. 7 and then REG and the end of Feb. Thank you for the words of encouragement. It has kept me going!!
