Took far today. Heavy Gov NFP and Sims were what I expected . However, there was a weirdly formatted sim I’ve never seen before. There were more than the 2 tabs available with links to other source documents. Time was tight and wanted to maximize points so I entered all zeros. Was this pretest?

“New Simulation Type
In July 2016 the Document Review Simulation (DRS) will debut on the Audit, Financial and Regulation Exams. This new style of task-based simulation is designed to increase Exam authenticity by presenting a realistic scenario that simulates the tasks a newly licensed CPA might be expected to perform on the job, such as reviewing memos, bank statements and other documents.

Each DRS will feature a primary document as well as related source materials for candidate review. Highlighted words, phrases, sentences or paragraphs in the DRS document may or may not be correct. Candidates will be required to select appropriate edits based on relevant source materials. Each highlighted section will count as a gradable item so candidates can earn partial credit even if all items are not answered correctly. Sample Document Review Simulations for the Audit, Financial and Regulation exams are currently available on AICPA’s website.

Although Document Review Simulation will be added to the Exam in July 2016, there is no guarantee that every Exam will include one. If a DRS does appear on a candidate’s Exam, the content tested will be based on the 2016 Content Specification Outline. Testing of higher-order skills will not begin until the new Exam is launched in April 2017.”

Took FAR on Saturday and had one SIM (qn 7) which was ridiculous impossible. It was super long and had to refer to another tab for “draft” source document. There was no way I was going to finish it up.Rushed thru and put bunch of zeros. I hope it was a pretest. Oh well waiting on March 9th.Hope we all pass.

I had one similar to that on Audit. 2 other tabs! However it wasn't THAT hard.

I have no idea if this type of question was pretest.

However, there is always at least one SIM that does not count towards your score on every exam. This is because it's an experimental question that the test makers are playing with. They want to see how people do on it in order to judge if it's worded fairly and what difficulty level to assign it.

There are new SIMS officially debuting in Quarter 3 so I was speculating that it might have been an experimental “pretest question” in the format of the new SIMS so the test makers can see the results and judge if the questions are fine to use in future tests and whether or not they should be altered.

I don't even know if this question was in the format of the new SIMS though. Like I said, just speculating.

Did y'all do the practice test from the AICPA's website? I did, and the DRS was on the practice test. It caught me off guard because I never saw it in my Roger lectures. If it was in the actual exam, it's probably a pretest. I don't think it would be fair to have it count when the change wasn't supposed to occur until later this year.

even when it changes in quarter 3, i have to imagine it will still be a pre tested simulation until the beginning of 2017. Assuming you only get one DRS and the rest of the sims are “normal” sims

I think that one with the attachment was a pretest too. Agreed, it was not in the Roger review.
