CPA on resume?

Question – I passed my last exam last week and am currently applying for my license. In the meantime, I’m also updating my resume. Can I list CPA in my name or objective since I’ve passed all 4 sections? I was going to include a note in my education section about passing the exams, and the expected ETA on receipt of my license. I want to put CPA but I don’t want to be misleading either. Thanks!

No. You cannot use CPA with your name until you have a license number. You can put next to education that you have passed the exams and are waiting on licensure. You might also reconsider using an objective section. From what I have been told by professional recruiters, the objective section is outdated- no one uses them anymore.

I'm in your same shoes. I passed my last section on 2/29/16. On my resume, I do not have cpa after my name. My resume has a section for “Certifications and Education,” and this is what I wrote there:

-Colorado Board of Accountancy (license pending)
—CPA exam passed; license pending due to processing time

*I used italics for the text in parenthesis above.

Thanks to both of you for the advice. Congrats Trip93 on passing your last exam too!. That's interesting about the objective being outdated – I haven't heard that. Personally I like it because I tailor my resume to every job I apply for, and I can use that to signal to the reader right off the bat that I'm targeting a specific position.

I've heard that about objectives too. But, I still have my objective, because I like it. I have it jazzed up and I list my short term and long term goals.

I would list the CPA in the “Summary” section at the top of your resume and in “Certifications”. I've included a template below for your reference. Hope it helps!

Hoosier, which study materials are you using for the CISSP? I want to take the CMA soon, and finding a trustworthy review material is hard, because not many people have taken the CMA test.

Everyone's taken the CPA, so in this forum you can get a lot of feedback on the CPA review materials, from real people. When I google CMA course reviews, all the reviews come from people affiliated with the review company.

I know the CMA is different than the CISSP, but how did you decide which materials to use?
