CPA License Transfer to Another State

    Hi All,

I just completed the CPA examinations while working in the banking industry back in September. I met the licensure requirements and passed the exams in the state of Wisconsin. I have not however applied for licensure, I just received the score letter this week. I am planning to study law in another state in the upcoming semester and am wondering if I should obtain licensure in Wisconsin or not. From what I have researched, it seems almost impossible to transfer the license once you have it to another state. Is my best chance, waiting until I move and as long as I have met all requirements in that state just apply for licensure there with my Wisconsin scores.

    Thanks for the help!
    Good luck everyone!

You can get licensed in WI and then get a reciprocal license in the state you move to.

I have actually heard the opposite- that it is generally harder to transfer scores than a completed license. Also, there are likely to be some hoops to jump through with verifying out-of-state experience, etc.
But check the requirements of the new state- as long as you meet the educational, experience, and possibly ethics requirements I think you could go about getting licensed in the new state either way.

I'm planning to go similar route with licensing in different state. I'm taking the exams in HI and planning to get licensed in NC. I dont see that many difficulties with that. I'll meet my experience requirement by the time I get done with all sections and just apply for license there. There is no specification as to where your experience must be coming from, so I dont see the problem having my employer to fill out a form for different state. I thought it might be better to get licensed but it'll take me a while in HI and i dont want to stay here longer than i absolutely have to.
