I finished my bachelor degree in accounting in December’16 and currently taking a few more courses. For now, I already have more than 150 credits. I plan to take advanced accounting from my current university in this coming fall semester. I read somewhere that the FAR will have some changes such as revenue recognition in Q1’2018. Should I start my CPA journey now or wait until 2018? I work full-time. Please give advice.

Have a degree, have the units, what value will this class have? The CPA journey will be a strenuous one. I'd get it the heck out of the way as soon as possible. I can assure you it will be more beneficial than taking another class if you already have the units. I would personally take the class after getting the CPA if that were possible but that's just me.

    Hello ckcpa!

Do you meet your NASBA requirements to sit for the exam in your state?

Double check the state requirements to make sure you qualify.

I put my exams off to go to get my MBA. Afterwards, I had 170+ credit hours, but was still 9 grad school accounting credits short(including 3 in audit and 3 in tax). I had to go back to take the courses.

The CPA designation opens lots of doors and I recommend taking it sooner than later.

Why wait for more changes to be added? Does that even make any sense at all? By waiting for new changes, it is going to make the exam even more complicated because of the additional stuff you now need to know.

    Thanks for replying.
I am personally interested in the course I plan to take. Business combination is part in the course and I have no idea how heavily it will be tested in CPA. Is this content difficult?
I think I have met the educational requirement, 24 upper level accounting and 24 business related. Actually for examination, 120 is the number of credits required and as well as a bachelor degree.
I think I'd talk to family about my plan over the coming vacation time. Without their support, I cannot be free from family duties.

I would do a CPA evaluation application-it's $100 and they will let you know exactly whether you can sit for the CPA exam. I am sure the course will add knowledge but as long as you have enough to sit the CPA exam, it's irrelevant. CPA exam content changes all the time-as long as you have up-to-date review materials, there is no sense in waiting.

The business combo section is about half of a chapter in Becker out of ten chapters. So yeah, it is important but you don't need a whole course to master it. I would skip the course. Just my two cents.

Thanks for your advice and encouragement. I start education evaluation now because I have both overseas and US education to make it total 150. Hopefully the evaluation will be done by the end of June, then I will go forward.

When will be the time I should buy the review course? I am currently thinking about Gleim or Wiley. I read many posts but I will try the both first.
