I have a question , say I pass the CPA but AM NOT employed with a Big 4/ mid size, once I become employed will I get the same bonus that people who initially started and passed CPA with working get? or will it be reduced (Frankly, getting into B4/midsize would be good, but I just would like some of the 3k I will spend on Becker Back , yes, yes, I know there are others, but I am confident with my 40+ hr week study plan and Becker’s high ratings I can get through it.

I am in NY Btw if that makes any difference

I was wondering the same thing. I was recently hired by one of the big 4 in NYC and I read somewhere that they don’t reimburse you if you pay for Becker yourself. You are supposed to go through them to get Becker, but many only get access a few months before starting. And, they probably pay less for Becker because they buy in bulk.

I don't work in Big 4, but that's something typically negotiated on the front end. For example, a sign on bonus in that amount or a higher salary. If you didn't negotiate on the front end and have already been hired there is probably still a tactful way to ask for reimbursement, but I would have to defer to someone else.

I started with a top 10 firm. We had to purchase our study materials through them because they got Becker for about $2k. If I had purchased it on my own for $3k, they wouldn't have reimbursed me for it.

If you have passed the cpa before starting to work you should still be able to get the 3k bonus. I worked at a B4 for 2 years and that is what I saw happen. Once you start working and you meet the work experience requirement then the B4 will also handle the process of you getting your license and they will pay for it as well. They also reimburse for testing fees. So when you start you should apply for the bonus and reimbursement as far as I know that is how it worked for people at my firm.

I work at Deloitte. Bonus is $5K if you pass during your first year. If you are not experienced, coming in as a 1st year, your offer will likely include the CPA bonus (just make sure). I worked with a girl who did tax somewhere else and came in as a 1st year auditor, but already had her CPA,and she still got the bonus! I studied on my own (Ninja + Wiley) before joining the firm and they reimbursed me for that after I passed 🙂

Someone I know just got offered by a top 10 (midsized) firm. He has a similar status as me in terms of passing the exam (already passed a few parts, bought the materials, paid for exams, etc.). They are offering to reimburse up to $1,500 in materials ($3,000 if Becker I believe) and all test taking fees (application, testing, etc.). Also, should he pass prior to or during his first year of employment he will still be eligible for the bonus.

    Andy & Jessica,

Hi, just a quick question: do you know if they reimburse for ALL testing fees, including ones that we didn't pass the first time? If that's the case, then it's a relief since I don't have to worry about paying out of my pockets for the exams I didn't pass haha. Big 4 question btw. Thanks!

No, they only pay for the sections you pass. So four parts and the ethics exam if that is required in your state.
