Peeps, I want to get CPA certification, I am lost after reading too many CPA on websites like AICPA, NASBA, etc.

All I did was, filled a form to get enrolled in AICPA as a non-member. I have the study material for all four subjects. I am an MBA with bachelors in Accountancy with 14 years work experience in Financial Management and Operations.

Being an international candidate whom should I contact if I get any exemption on any subject.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

You first need to apply to take the exams. You need 150 credit hours and 2 years (I think) of experience working under a CPA.

In terms of exemptions – there are none. You will have to do all the same things that every other candidate does.

    Hello Ali,

As an international student, you will need to get your evaluation done from NASBA. Based on your transcripts, they will do evaluation and give you a report stating total credits you have received based on your foreign education. If you have received more than 150 hours credit, they will give you 3 jurisdictions. You have to choose 1 of them.

You won't get any exemption on any of the subjects.

Thanks Reema for your reply. I need some more info if you con provide, I am not residing in India and getting my transcript for B.Com and MBA mailed to Nasba would be very difficult, if not impossible. Do you know if the Evaluation Agency can independently contact the University to get the verified transcript, as stated on their website, and if I am reading it correctly.

    Hi Ali,

I got you on my lap!
    – Create an account on http://WWW.ECE.ORG , this is an approved agency by NACES to evaluate foreign education.
    – Require a Course-By-Course evaluation and require an official copy to be sent to Guam board of accountancy address.
    – pay the fees, probably as low as $300.
    – Send your ORIGINAL transcripts along with the diploma to http://WWW.ECE.ORG
    – wait and check-up the process regularly.

This is how a friend of mine does.

    Cheers.
    Joshua.

Thanks Joshua for the info, I intend to choose NY State Board and ECE is not a listed evaluation agency.

@ Ali- I don't think so the Evaluation agency directly contacts with the University for transcripts. Earlier there was a provision wherein you could send your originals to NASBA for evaluation. But I think even that provision is been removed and now you need to compulsorily send transcripts to them.

You can email your queries to nies@nasba.org. They have been very helpful when I had done my evaluation.

I have appeared for AUD and yet to appear for REG.

As per my knowledge, NASBA has partnered with The DataFlow Group who will do Verification on the scanned images of your documents for some fees.

You can certainly email them with all your queries and you will get a timely response.

@ Reema, thanks for the info. I contacted Nasba, they were swift in their response and confirmed that DataFlow can actually verify your degree even if you provide them only the copies, though they will charge few extra bucks for that. Thanks.
