Could use some CPA support/encouragement…

I was scheduled to take REG today. They wouldn’t let me sit. I moved to a new state and got a new driver’s license. The DMV voided my last driver’s license and in this state – they issue paperwork as a temporary driver’s license. I asked the DMV not to snip the old one because people don’t accept it but they said it was government issued and people HAD to accept it. I said that wasn’t the case and I was right!

So, as we all know, the new REG is completely different 4/01. And I have to take REG, FAR (retake), and AUD. And BEC expires 10/31. With the new grading window – I think BEC will expire.

If I take REG and AUD in the testing window 4/01 to 5/31 and results come August 16th (per the AICPA website). And I take FAR 7/01 my results will come in November. So I guess there’s little time for any retakes if I don’t pass. Guess I better pass, huh? And I’m out ALL that money. And I’m between jobs so I don’t like spending $2k for all this right now. Uggg. Can they make the 4 passable in 2 years instead of 18 months with the new grading scale? I’ll attempt to get an extension but it’s “case by case” so we’ll see how THAT goes.

I just feel like this is designed to fail and I’m SO frustrated. My friends and family think there is SOMETHING they can do but they don’t understand the AICPA like we do. They’re not overly helpful.

    Guys – help! Ugh.

FAR: 65 (still drying my tears) 2nd attempt: 7/2016
BEC: 81 5/2016 (WOO FIRST PASS!)
    REG: 5/2016
    AUD: 8/2016

    Question –

Do I use the next 4 weeks to study for AUD and sit for AUD 4/01 (since I'm out of a job for right now and can study full time?) and REG 4/30 (since I've already studied and will only need a refresher)? Or do I continue to study for REG with the new format and take that 4/01 and try to do AUD in 29 days? And then TRY for a FAR retake at the end of May? How should I space these?

FAR: 65 (still drying my tears) 2nd attempt: 7/2016
BEC: 81 5/2016 (WOO FIRST PASS!)
    REG: 5/2016
    AUD: 8/2016

Damn man, that DMV situation sucks. That doesn't seem right on their part. I also have to take REG in the new format and really not looking forward to it :/ Definitely stressing out too. We just gotta keep moving forward though. That is the only way to get through this! I hope it all works out for you in the future!

    FAR: 74 1/15/16, 72 7/2/16 -_-
    BEC: TBD
    REG: TBD
    AUD: TBD

I would read Prometric's policy and see what it says about appropriate forms of ID. Is there anything in there about temporary licenses? Maybe it says workers can arbitrarily approve/dismiss cases at their whim, in which case you're hosed. But I would look into it anyway. You may have a case against them. If you do have a legitimate case, then I would talk to a lawyer and try to sue the sh-t out of them. That is 2 months of your life down the drain studying for this test. I would fight for that.

    4 for 4

    FAR 85
    AUD 94
    BEC 86
    REG 90

I didn't know my license expired on the day of my first exam. They told me to go to dmv and get a temporary ID (paperwork). I was 3 hours late but the prometric luckily had space so let me sit for the exam. Temp ID is issued for a reason. If you can't use it as a sub than whats the point. The person working at prometric is probably misinformed.

The CPA, NASBA, etc feels that they are above what the government issues. There is no pedestal higher than the one the brass at NASBA stand on. Their sh*t doesn't stink so, why should they care about a temp ID?

Needless to say, I've had a bad experience as well…

See if they will accept another form of id….like a passport. The center can see that it is dmv issued and they can give you a receipt that you paid for it, there should be something they can do…I wouldn't give up just yet. They might let you take it tomorrow or something. Don't give up, get somebody on the phone. what a waste of money.

This is a situation straight out of my CPA exam nightmares! I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this. I will say though, that if you take a test in July like you mentioned, you should get your score back for that one on 9/22 as opposed to November. Not sure if that changes any planning for you, but thought I'd mention it.

Also, the order you take AUD and REG in depends on if you think you'll be able to keep REG fresh for almost a month? Did you feel ready to take it, or like you could use more time? If you think you'll be able to keep REG fresh enough until 4/1, I would take REG 4/1 and then move on to AUD.
