Does anyone here have any experience with this certification? How is the exam compared to the CPA in terms of difficulty? Study materials? Is it worth it? I guess this certification does not have much recognition but nevertheless I was curious since part of my job involves working IRS notices and some other issues. Any feedback will be appreciated!!

nobody will know what this is. this is a garbage cert. i wouldnt do it unless alphabet collecting is your hobby.

also it deals with the more procedural aspects of tax- not the theoretical/regulatory side of tax that we are more familiar with bcz of the REG exam. by procedural i mean, collections, penalty abatement, installment agreements, offers in compromise. basically bailing taxpayers out of debt/IRS problems. it's like those ads you see on late night TV: “IRS problems? call us and we will reduce your debt by 90%.” it just reeks of sketchy/sleazy.

having a CPA far surpasses this certification and is wayyyyy more recognized. this will give you no edge in your career. there is no value in this whatsoever. i wouldn't take it if it was free. from waht i understand i think you HAVE to be a CPA in order to get this, you cant get it instead of the CPA. but once you have a CPA why need this?

EDIT: i missed the part of your post that says you have to deal with IRS Notices. in that case, the value this will provide to you is more internal than external. (i.e. you will learn a lot while going through the process but actually attaining CTRS will not signal to anyone that you are more knowledgeable than any other CPA specializing in tax.

eesti those two first sentences on your post made me laugh! (in a good way) I thought that it didn't had much recognition but was curious anyways. Thanks for the feedback.

monikernc these past two months has been crazy for me with tax season but everything's great. My amazing son was born on April 10 and everyrhing went smoothly thanks to God. It was an incredible experience! As for the license I received it pretty quickly. One I reveived my BEC score I moved quickly and submitted all the documentation to NASBA (Puerto Rico is a NASBA state) like in 5 days and in two weeks they send me my license. I already fullfiled the experience requirement and I had been working under an active CPA these yeard so everyrhing went smoothly.

And you? How is the studying going? REG is a beast!!
