So I mailed my application for my BEC retake on March 22nd to the CBA. On March 27th, the CBA updated the status in my CBA account portal saying “Remittance payment received by Board.” Its been a week now and I still have not been able to choose the exam I want to take so that I can get my payment coupon to pay NASBA for the exam. I noticed that many of the test dates at Prometrics are being taken up this quarter, so I really wish they would hurry up! Anyone else experiencing longer than usual wait times from the CBA?

I have never gotten an app processed faster than 4 weeks from the CBA just fyi. After I chose my test online it only takes a few more days to pay NASBA and get the NTS, but from them updating your portal of “payment received” to “go choose you test” takes several weeks.

*tip – About a week before you take a test, mail in an app to the CBA. It's an insurance policy – yeah you might not need another NTS if you've already paid for all of your exams. But on the off chance you don't pass, your portal will be sitting there waiting for you to go select your exam the day scores are released since you will have sent your app in so much earlier. It's worth it when you're in a time crunch.

@CPA788 You have to send a $50 check with the application. So if you don’t actually need to take the exam, then will they send the check back?

No they definitely won't. That's why I call it an “insurance policy” – if you have already paid for all of your exams and you have no reason to send another app to the CBA, my approach would theoretically be a waste of money (if you passed). But if you didn't, like I clearly have time after time, having my app in early allowed me to get a failing score and literally click to the next tab over and select that exact test again to retake because I sent my app in weeks prior. It comes down to if you want to roll the dice in sending in an app prematurely to avoid the exact situation you're in.

If you pay for an application and end up not needing it, they will refund the 50$. It will take 6-8 weeks for a refund.

That's according to an email I got from them when I asked about sending in an application early before my scores were posted.

“Yes, if your application is not needed the CBA will issue a refund it may take 6-8 weeks since it is generated through the State Controller’s Office.

Should you desire further assistance, please contact the CBA Examination Unit by phone at (916) 561-1703 or by email at examinfo@cba.ca.gov.”

The great state of California is not so great when it comes to timely processing. Expect about a month to get your application processed. You can get your application fee refunded if you want but it will take even longer

Same boat. Mine says the same and it was updated 3/24. No updates since.

They take forever and their website sucks too. If all else fails, give them a call and shout obscenities until they wake up enough to actually do what they're supposed to.

Same issue, same dates for me. I rescheduled my FAR exam from end of May to middle July this week because it was taking too long.

The CBA is Always lagging. You have to really plan ahead for taking exams bc it typically takes 3-4 weeks to be able to sign up for an exam. Goodluck and stay on top of it. This process is a Pain!
