Hiya. Been lurking for a while and finally decided to contribute.

I’m wondering if anyone has recent experience applying to sit for the exams in CA. I searched around and could only find answers on licensing wait times (after exams).

    Here’s my timeline:

    • 7/31 – I sent in my application with check and requested transcripts to be sent
    • 8/10 – CBA posted my check
    • 8/19 – I emailed the CBA asking if all of my transcripts had arrived
    • 8/21 – They replied, said they had nothing on file. Cool.
    • 8/29 – I emailed again asking about my transcript and to my utter surprise they emailed back within 2 hours saying yes – “Thank you for contacting the California Board of Accountancy (CBA). The CBA has received three transcripts under your name. Allow 6-8 weeks from the date your payment posted for the file to be reviewed. You will be notified once the review is completed.”
    • 9/21 – I emailed again asking wassup

No response yet. I’m waiting for my application to accepted before I buy my study materials (just in case for whatever reason they say I need additional classes). So I’m antsy AF. I know I”m technically within the 6-8 weeks but come onnnnnn.

    My questions are this:

    Is this timeline normal?
Did I miss something in the application process? I just submitted my application, check, and transcripts (send directly to CBA from schools). Was I supposed to do something else? I’d hate to wait this whole time and come to find out I missed something trivial in the process and have to start over.

    Thanks in advance!

As someone who recently got licensed and was HELD up by transcripts being entered. It'll be a bit. It genuinely took them 3+ weeks to enter my transcript to be LICENSED. So yes, CBA is slow and we have to deal with it since there is a saturation of CPAs in our state.

@hasy – They have to enter your transcripts again for licensure? That's so inefficient! I thought once they had them they were always on file.

I had to send my transcript twice. I did it once when I had enough to sit. But to be licensed, is a whole other ball. After passing my exams, I had to take some classes in order to qualify for license. So yes, if you don't have enough for license, they will have to enter your transcript again.

CBA took around 8 weeks to review and accept my initial application so that's very normal. Just wait their email and enjoy before studying:)
I recommend that you don't purchase any material yet since you didn't receive their approval, you can try free trials and decide which software you will buy

@hasy, cool, good to know. One of the schools I went to is archaic and can only order transcripts through snail mail, so I'll be prepared.

@Lamis, Thank you! I'm just impatient, then. Haha 🙂 Yeah, I'm definitely waiting on their review to purchase study materials. I have the 150 credits (~155 total actually, woo) and when I worked it out I had enough of each subject and whatnot. Hopefully they come to the same conclusion!
