Are there any California CPAs on here who could tell me how long it took to get their license issued?

I got my final exam score on 9/20/16. I sent in my application and my check for $250 that day, so they probably got it on the 22nd. The CBA has not yet cashed my check. I know it’s a process (like everything with the CBA), but I’m wondering how long it took before you guys received your license number.

I had already taken care of everything else and sent it all in previously.

I've been emailing them every week asking for some kind of update. Apparently they can't even get out the status letters every 30 days because the last one I received was closer to 45 days ago. They keep telling to wait about two more weeks, but it keeps becoming two weeks on top of two weeks. I'm so done dealing with these people like seriously what is going on over there that it takes them this long to open a piece of mail and process it? It really makes me wonder like wtf do they do all day over there…So fed up.

@Dewdewyah – Californians are not alone. I'm in Louisiana and just got my congratulations letter in the mail telling me I can now apply for the CPA license since I passed all sections. I got my final score in early September and I sent my application in about a week later. Maybe we'll all get our license # on the same day. Come on Louisiana, let's beat California at something other than college football.

So in my last email I was like look, here is the email where you said you received the last two pieces that you needed for my file on 9/15. You said to wait two weeks then for an update. I did. No update. Then I email again and get told four weeks, so I email two weeks later.

Get this… they said that each new additional piece added to the file takes four weeks to review. So four weeks for my finger prints (that they received 9/11) and then when my file comes back, another four weeks for the review of the final piece of the puzzle.

I'm so frustrated. I passed my exams in May. I know they received the letter not on 9/15, but a month earlier, because I was in contact with the other CPA board about how they sent them TWO copies of the required letter over the course of a couple of months. They keep telling me to wait for letters in the post, but we're overseas with the military and the post is ridiculously slow, I'm sick of waiting for it. They should be able to update me on my status at any time I contact them.

At least I know I'm not alone in this pain…

Go Louisiana! I haven't heard back directly from the Board of Accountnancy but I checked the cpaverify.org website just now and I am on there! License # 0028209 is all mine! I'm not a big crier, but this almost makes me want to.

@bhunt815 – Congrats!!! I got an email back from the state board yesterday. They verified receiving my application on Sept 29th, but have not done any processing on it yet…..solid waste of a month, California.

LSU has a great baseball program. I was in junior high when Ben McDonald went there and got all sorts of national attention.

The last thing my file needed was a letter from an East Coast state since one of my signers is a CPA there. I know the other state mailed the form on 9/23, so what is the holdup California? The audit committee at my company wants all auditors to have a certification and I don't want to be the guy holding it up.

At this rate I will have the next certification before I get this one.

So I got a letter saying that they “have received all documents to initiate evaluation of your application for licensure.”
The letter was dated Oct 25th. Which is a little more than 4 weeks after I mailed in my application. They letter says this review will take another 4-6 weeks….

My coworker stayed in touch with them and they emailed him his license fee voucher thing as soon as his application was approved so he didnt have to wait for it in the mail, so I'm going to do that as well. I'm ready to be a CPA!

Now entering month 2 of waiting for my CPA after passing the ethics exam (passed on Labor Day). Last letter dated 10/7. If I don't hear by Friday will email again.

Got my letter saying my application was approved and the invoice for the initial license fee. I have no idea how it went so quick.

Like I said before I got a letter saying all my docs were in and it was getting reviewed dated October 25. Then I got the letter saying it was approved and requesting the license fee dated October 28. Now I'm just waiting for my license!!!!!

I guess the moral of the story, is to not wait to start getting all the other documents in. I highly recommend everyone start submitting their livescan and criminal disclosure and all other documents while you're waiting for your final exam score. Get it all in, so they can review it all early!!!

@Dewdewyah I'm sooooo jealous! But congrats! I got my letter dated 10/21 saying they were going to begin my review of 4-6 weeks. That's crazy yours got reviewed so fast, you must have been first in line lol. I'm hoping they can get mine done quicker than 4-6 weeks but I'm not holding my breath! Congrats again on becoming a CPA!

Well this sucks for me.

I emailed for an update and now they want a license verification for the partner I worked under at EY. It took 4 months to get my supervisor one to them (because they kept ‘losing' it) and I'm dealing with the Australian institute.

FYI, they will NOT send out of state verification letters until they receive your application. So, you can't get ahead on that one so lesson learned, if you're an out of state candidate, NEVER CHOOSE CALIFORNIA!

I'm not going to make the December 31 deadline. This seriously blows.

Never have an out of state cpa sign ur experience. Ask managers who are from CA or the state will drag their feet!! I wish they had mentioned this last August.
I asked the newest cpa at my job how long his took, and he said 6 weeks from final review. So I should get it this month, but I wanted it before I left for my next audit! Grr.

Mine has been in final review for about 2 weeks now. I contacted the board yesterday and they said they will email me a copy of the voucher when its complete so I don't have to wait on their snail mail. This will only save a day or two but still makes me feel better lol. This process has been excruciating, I sent in my damn application in August!

BOOM BABY!! Application sent in August, Ethics test passed on Labor Day and FINALLY got the email today. About time.

Running out of work early to get a bank money order. Not a second to lose. If I hadn't gotten it this week, it would have messed things up as I am leaving for an audit next week.

I guess the lesson is don't get ur hopes up in getting it under 2 months, but when you do it's such a catharsis.
