Are there any California CPAs on here who could tell me how long it took to get their license issued?

I got my final exam score on 9/20/16. I sent in my application and my check for $250 that day, so they probably got it on the 22nd. The CBA has not yet cashed my check. I know it’s a process (like everything with the CBA), but I’m wondering how long it took before you guys received your license number.

I had already taken care of everything else and sent it all in previously.

I sent in my pack on 8/1. On 8/31 I got a letter saying since one signer is an out-of-state CPA, I needed a verification form for him. At the same time I passed the Ethics exam. The letter was lost in the mail but the other state finally mailed CA the verification form last last Friday. I am waiting for an invoice from the state for membership/license dues, which I believe is separate from the application fee.

So I guess if I had passed the Ethics exam already and one supervisor was not from another state, I would have been cleared in 4 weeks.

They cashed my check yesterday (10.6.16). Took 2 weeks to cash. Hopefully, going to final review shortly. We'll see when I receive a letter from them.

I asked them if they got the letter stating that my supervisor is an out-of-state CPA. They said yes and that my package has been moved to final review … and that it may take another 4 weeks.
So sounds like it takes a month to review your packet and another month for final review. I really wanted it this month as I am attending a dinner for new CPA's and I don't want to say I don't have the number yet (even though they said it's cool and I can still go).

Thanks Track55 and Dewdewyah for sharing. Hope I will send my application by end of this year. I am taking online classes non-stop after passing the exams to meet additional education requirements (30 units). How did you guys do it? Did you have a Master degree or something?

@ultrarunner: Yeah, I'm the same as Track55. I spent 1.5 years as an engineering student. So I had about a year of extra classes. Sucked at first to waste a year of education, but worked out when I found out I needed 150 for my CPA. Keep chippin away at it!

I sent my application in on 8/4, 30 days later I got a status letter with a deficiency in the way the partner I work for filled out my experience form, so I sent a new one (and confirmed they received the corrected on), and they told me I can expect another status letter about 60 days after the date I mailed my original application – which should be any day now!

I believe the way it works is they send you status letters every 30 days or so, and if you have everything in needed to get licensed then you just pay the licensing fee and I think they issue you a license number shortly after that. Of course they love to take their sweet time with it…

I got my postcard yesterday that the CBA received my application. Really hoping this goes quickly. I'm eager for that license!

Louisiana has had my application since mid September and they haven't cashed my check either. They did let me know a couple weeks ago that I had made an error on my application and they graciously allowed me to correct it. I haven't heard from them since but I have faith that they are simply overworked and understaffed. I waited this long to become a CPA; I can wait a few more days.

I mailed my licensing packet 6/15 knowing I had a deficiency in that my finger prints would take longer to part the DOJ check since we're overseas. I received a 30 day status letter saying that they hadn't received that and my out-of-state work experience verification.

Lots of back and forth on my work experience form, finally found out on 9/15 that they had received everything (lots of lost/'not received' letters/emails).

Now I keep checking in. I'm up to five weeks now. They keep saying I'll receive a status letter (and I was supposed to when the packet was deemed complete on 9/15) and I haven't yet.

This is incredibly painful. I'm even pondering on changing state since we've received orders to Texas.

FYI, I just received a response from them that they are backlogged with additional delays of 3-4 weeks due to lack of staff.

So at the rate of 5 weeks now, I'll be looking at 8-9 weeks… Apparently they haven't had time to update my application as having been complete in the last 5 weeks.

Got a letter dated 10/7 that it will be 4 weeks in final review, which is what they emailed me on 9/29 when I asked. So it has been 2.5 months total, but I didnt pass Ethics till 1.5 months ago. This sucks. I got my TSA flight number in 2 days and I had the same fingerprints this year.

Got a letter in the mail this weekend…..too bad it was only the letter saying that I passed all the exams…

Thanks, California. I already knew that. Plus I had already received my postcard saying my application was received….they really need to update this process. Why is there not a section on our exam account where we can see the application status. I think we should be past the days of sending status letters every 30 days…

    Sorry…frustrated rant.
