I got laid off from one of the big 4 a few months ago (I was there for less than a year and now I’m with a different company). I just passed all parts of my CPA exam and was wondering if I could ask them to fill out the “GENERAL ONE YEAR ACCOUNTING EXPERIENCE” REQUIREMENT Form. Can a previous employer can do this?

The big 4 should fill out the Public form. Your experience COULD be a mixture of general and public, AS LONG AS it fulfills the one year experience (subject to parttime and fulltime requirements). Unless you left on bad terms, there is no reason why the big 4 would not fill out the form for you.

Previous employers have to fill out the experience form if requested. Definitely contact them and they can fill in the info for when you worked there, then have your current employer fill their info, and if that combines to a year or more then you'll be fine.

Hasy, thanks for your response! Unfortunately, I left on bad terms and I'm embarrassed to ask my managers to sign the form. Does the HR deal with this kind of matter?

sharesince1992, congratulations on passing the exams. It doesn't matter whether you left on bad terms. You could fill out the form and ask the managers to sign it. As long as I know, the employers must sign if requested. Good luck.

From what I understand, for firms, you usually give the form to HR to complete. They know how.

When you left, you should have received the contact information of someone in HR. That is the person you can email and ask to have your experience forms filled out. That person will reach out to the respective partner and have them sign off on your experience. At least when I left the green dot that is what they did for my friend once she passed the exam. Our practice partner completed the experience form and then HR mailed it for her. She did not have to deal with anyone directly.

They are obligated to sign off on experience. If they refuse they would have to give a reason why I believe. And if they refuse just to be spiteful then you can report them. However, you want to be careful in forcing someone to sign off if they don't want to because essentially they could give a reason on your paperwork as to why you do not meet the requirements if they claim your work was not up to par.
