    Hello,

I called California Board of Accountancy and they told me they didn’t need work verification form for applying for the CPA Exam. They require this form to be filled out when applying for CPA License. Is this true? because I don’t see this information on their website.

Also, does California requires accounting courses to be upper level? I took all the classes at Santa Monica College and they are lower level below 300.

I didn’t get the correct information from the board, so I am hoping someone here would be able to help.

    Thank you!

You can apply whenever you want to without all the required materials (classes, work experience etc). All you need to do is the form and the $250 application fee. I just did mine and I have to take additional courses and get more work experience. You can't possibly have all courses to be upper level, especially with community college. So I'm 99% sure you are good. https://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/applicants/applbook.pdf. Here is the handbook. See page 5-6.

Oh really? I didn't know that. So they will approve my application and let me sit for the exams without 150 credits and work experience?

Ok just realized you were asking about the exams. I was under the impression that you are applying for the license. NVM then, you do need school credit to sit for the exams. Send in your transcripts as instructed on their website and they will let you know if you are eligible for the exams or not.

What they told you is correct. You only need to have bachelor degree and 24 units of accounting in order to qualify to sit for the exam

@Puppykoala & @Paul – Thank you so much for your responses. I will go ahead and start the application process.
