    Hi All,

As I discussed my career with my manager today, the CPA exam topic came up.

I am one of the people who is waiting for a hail mary. I pass FAR and BEC and took AUD and REG in May before my FAR expired. I called the CA Board of Accountancy, and they said that even if the FAR status says expired before I get all the results in August 16, if I pass exams I took in May, my FAR will be counted and I am off to the next step of licensing.

Like everyone here at A71, I have been dreading to find out my results so I can move forward with the next step, either to take the ethics exam or restart studying for my failed exams.

As I am a CA candidate, my manager reminded me to learn more about the CA Professional Ethics Exam. I found out you can take it before you pass any exam and it will be valid for a year.

I haven’t seen many discussions about this. And would like to share my findings.

I am really hoping we get good news on Thursday/Friday.

Share your thoughts or experiences with this if you have any.

I originally got Becker for free as a Campus Ambassador.
Failed REG really bad in 2012. Then stopped studying for the CPA Exam.
Then in 2014, I restarted. I bought Roger CPA thinking that the lectures would fit me better. It did. I enjoy it.
Studied FAR for 4 months, passed with a 75.
Took BEC in February 2016, failed with a 60. Retook it in April 2016, thought I was ready, failed with a 73. Seems that I was only ready for my weak areas from the last exam.

Now, is this were resilience and persistence in life's challenges comes in?

My sig says it all, but I would just wait until you pass all the exams unless you KNOW for sure that you did well enough to pass OR you have like one left and can pass it within one year. I think it took me a week, took it twice, (68,96), SAVE the questions so you can go back to them. Also print it out and write your answers.

It was SUCH a stupid exam… the questions were meant to TRICK you more than anything. I think if you search PETH, you'll see my thread.. roll eyes. It isn't hard, just takes a ton of time.

    BEC 80 (10/23/15)
    FAR 72 (4/2/15); 83 (7/11/16)
    REG 52 (4/28/15)
    AUD (9/9/16)

Ditto what hasy said. The PETH is a pain in the @$$. You don't want to have to take it multiple times. I took it twice (88, 92) over the course of a weekend and by the end I was ready to throw my laptop and all of my study materials out the window. The only saving grace is that I knew it was the very last thing I had to do.

Twiddling my thumbs now waiting for the CBA to process my license application.

@ineedtolearn per the FAQ that you cited, you actually have two years to get licensed once you pass the PETH. Take it whenever you want, I did mine shortly after taking REG in May because I wanted to take a break knowing that there was no need for me to study for any test and I could enjoy my summer guilt free. It's not that bad of a test, some of the questions are word from word from the book. Also the format makes it far easier than the other exams, once you open up the exam there's no time limit… You can print the exam to PDF, look up the answers on your own schedule, then input them into the actual test. You can easily get it done in like 5 hours.

The exam is ludicrous but I did it over 2 days (one day to fail and one day to pass).

Do a search on “strategy for passing california peth” and there's a page that has some very good tips.
