Hey all, I’ll be graduating this May and am looking to start studying for the CPA. Since I haven’t finished college yet, I haven’t looked too far into it. The firm that offered me a job is paying for Becker and I’m still trying to decide what to take first. I’ll be starting as a tax associate on June 6th and my workload at school isn’t too heavy right now so I was thinking about attempting to knock out FAR by August since I can order the materials now. That gives me about one month to study before work begins.

I think the firm is only going to pay for Becker’s 4 part package and everything else will be out of my pocket. Do you guys have any advice or suggestions on any other study materials? I’m not that great of a test taker, so I’m looking to get some extra materials that could possibly make that one point difference from 74 to 75. Any other suggestions would be great for a newbie is more than welcome.

    Thanks!

As stated elsewhere on the forums, the most important thing you can do when preparing for the CPA exam is to first find out how you learn best. For me, I re-wrote each chapter in the Becker book (never watched lectures I'm not an auditory learner) and do as many MCQ's as possible in which I would recommend the NINJA MCQs. If you can gain a general understanding of each topic and use the continuous MCQ to narrow in on the finer points, you got your self a winning combination. That's what has worked me so far. But as previously stated, each person learns differently.

Ninja MCQ. A lot of folks around here use it as a supplement to their Becker/Gleim/Wiley course. Personally, I've used it for FAR with great success, and am currently using it for BEC which I am taking in a few days. After I completed the Wiley materials, I just spent the next couple weeks hammering thousands of multiple choice questions on Ninja. I learn better by doing mcqs than from reading, note-taking, or any other way.

If you've still got any of your notes from previous classes hold onto them. A couple of times I'd get to a concept in the cpa material and remember talking about that in a class, and wish I still had those notes. You can have a big bonfire when you're done.

Hey BECKER is nice review course and best too in the market you can also try NINJA MCQs and Prepsmarter( it's free for CPA stydents). when are you planing to take your first CPA exam?? I advise you try this contest https://prepsmarter.com/contests/cpa-aud which is just like a mock exam, you will get some good experience before the exam 🙂
