Hello everyone, just looking for some insight… I was contacted through LinkedIn from a big 4 recruiter for an opening which I am interested in. I responded that same night but I have not heard back from the recruiter. I responded through LinkedIn should I email instead? The recruiter left an email in the message as part of the signature. It’s only been a couple of days but I’m not sure what the appropriate amount of time is to wait and try contacting the recruiter again.

Instead of posting a question here, I would just shoot a follow up email. It won't hurt.

Recruiters are busy, he probably has 20-30 candidates he is vetting for one job. I would shoot a quick follow-up to remain relevant.

How long has passed? If more than 4 days then shoot him an email, and just say you responded through linkedin, but that you wanted to make sure you emailed him as well.

I think Mayo's approach is fine.

Send a follow up through email a few days afterwards and you can reference the Linkedin message. “Hi [name], I'd like to follow up on your note through Linkedin related to xx position…”.
